This post talks a lot about stuff in America, prices in America, and some American politics. You will still understand most of what I have to say even if you are not in America.

One last thing, this is completely my opinion, and you have the right to your own. I am not blindly trying to side with Nintendo, or go against them, I am honestly saying what I believe. I will be stating opinion, fact, and everything in between, so if you do not agree, please let me know.

No, recently Nintendo has announced their new console, the Switch 2. It has a multitude of new features, I will quickly go over some here:
1. 120 FPS compatibility.

2. 1080p Resolution in handheld mode.

3. 4K compatibility in docked mode.

4. Joy-Cons mouse controls.

These are crazy new features, and even in the case of the last one, crazy initiative. I have never seen any console use their controllers as a mouse before.

But with all of these new features, the fanbase was freaking out, this is what Nintendo fans have been wanting for a very long time. That was until the fans learned about the prices. Here is just an idea of what the prices are for the consoles, games, and accessories.

Switch 2 - 449$ - Comes with the console, 2 Joy-Cons, the dock, a Joy-Con grip (the connector), charger, a strap for each Joy-Con.

This is the base package for the Switch 2, and people have been freaking out because of the prices, saying that Nintendo has been being greedy recently. And yes, I agree. In some ways and with some products, Nintendo has been greedy, but in other ways, they have not, and I want to go over the places where they have been greedy, and the places where they haven't.

Products Where Nintendo Has Been Greedy:

Mario Kart World - 80$ - This game is a massive upgrade in every way, and on top of it, it has so much content. Largest roster of any Mario Kart game ever, each character has multiple unlockable skins, there is brand new modes, 32 new tracks, so much content, they are having an entire Nintendo Direct just for the game. But the price is 80$, and wow. That is an INCREDIBLY steep price. Since around 2020, the average price has been 80$, and Nintendo has been behind that for a while, but now they have just decided to take this one game, and have it be one of the most expensive games on the market. If this does sell good, because lets face it, it will, then other companies will raise their prices too, which is just very unhealthy for the market.

GameChat - I did not include any price here, because to be able to even use GameChat, you must have a Nintendo Online Membership. The membership is a subscription, which means you will be paying regularly, in the case of Nintendo Online, you pay 20$ a year. This really sucks because this is one of the main marketing points for the new console, so to have this behind a paywall is just disappointing. Also, on top of that, if you want to be able to see your friends while you use GameChat, you must connect a camera. So Nintendo releases a new product, the Switch 2 Camera, which is 50$! So, if you want to use this, you have to get a subscription and then a camera. Now luckily, you can connect ANY camera and don't need to use their specific camera. But there is more I need to talk about for GameChat. There is a GameChat button on the Joy-Cons and Pro Controllers, but unless you PAY for Nintendo Online, this button will do NOTHING! The button itself is locked behind a paywall. This is just very sad.

Joy-Cons - 90$ - To buy a pair of Joy-Cons on their own, it costs almost 20% of the entire cost to buy a Switch 2 on its own. This is just INSANE every way you look at it. The thing too, a Pro Controller costs 80$, these handheld controllers that are smaller and have less features cost more than a full controller. Keep in mind the Pro Controllers also have programmable buttons on the back, and a plugin for headphones. The only argument for Joy-Cons being more expensive is because of their new mouse feature. Luckily these come included with buying the Switch 2.

All In One Carrying Case - 80$ - This is a SUPER useful product, being able to carry around your console, dock, controllers, and games! It is super portable and even has a handle! But why does it cost the same amount as the already overpriced launch title for the Switch 2? This is just insane, and expecting your audience to buy this to be able to take your console and supplies for it with you for this much money is just not okay. Luckily, there is an alternative carrying case for half of the price, but it can only carry the Switch 2, and maybe a couple of games.

Products Where Nintendo Has NOT Been Greedy:

Switch 2 - 450$ - This new upgraded console is amazing in almost absolutely every way! 8x the file storage, 4K graphics, and so much more, I could list at least 20 crazy new features, some new features, some upgraded features, all amazing! Now, the price is slightly overpriced, it has a 50% increase in price from the Switch 1, but honestly, with these new features, it is worth it. I understand some people can not afford this price, and some people won't want to get it! But for people who can afford this, is will be an amazing new console that can be played for years! Also, the handheld market has been increasing a lot lately, and honestly, for the money being spent, this is a great price for what we get when we compare it to other handheld consoles. Small example, the Steam Deck has so many less features than the Switch 2, then the dock is not included, and just overall so much worse, this is by far the best handheld console for your money on the market currently.

Switch 2 + Mario Kart World - 500$ - Being able to get the new console, and save 30$ on the new game, still overpriced, but now the game at least is more affordable. But still, this is HALF of 1000$, but this console can play almost all Switch 1 games, new Switch 2 games, and new features, with the new Mario Kart with the most content we have seen from that franchise! I think it is worth the 500$ any way you slice is, although just like the standalone console, lots of people will not be able to get it, or not want to because its so much money, and I understand, and I think that it is totally okay!

Edit: Also, this gives so much incentive to buy the new console, new games specifically for Switch 2 obviously, but this gives a 30$ discount on the game, making it slightly more affordable! This encourages people to get the new console, which then entices developers to make games for the Switch 2, which increases the gaming library, and a huge fanbase and list of experiences you can have on the Switch 2 will bloom for the benefit of everybody!

Switch 2 Camera - 50$ - I think this camera is pretty well priced, we know Nintendo will make a good high-quality camera. It still is a bit overpriced, but Nintendo gave us the option to use any other camera for their games and GameChat. Its clear that they are giving us a choice here, and yes they have been greedy, but this is a still weird and generous choice from the largest company in Japan.

Pro Controller - 80$ - This is honestly still pretty expensive, but the Pro Controllers were already pretty high quality, but now these are slightly larger, has new buttons, and two programmable buttons on the back, headphone plug in, and more. I was not going to include this, I think it is overpriced but not as much as other new Nintendo stuff, and the fact that this is CHEAPER than the Joy-Cons, this is worth your money.

For anybody who is still here, just know, the prices may go up. Donald Trump's tariffs may cause the prices to go up. Places where the Switch 2 have been hit with big tariffs, and the economy has been really on the decline in America. A lot of this has been the fault of the current people in office, the president, congress, house of representatives, and really, just stop denying it. Look at the facts. I try to have an open mind, but Nintendo isn't the enemy. These people are. America is one of the biggest money making areas in the whole company of Nintendo, with these tariffs, the prices in America will go up for the Switch 2 most likely. But they will be paying so much more to make these consoles with the tariffs, it might effect the prices everywhere. I mean, just today the pre-orders in Canada has been paused, this is a big effect. So please, check your facts, try to be open minded, and only hate when its justified.

Edit 2: I want to make sure what I am saying makes sense. Nintendo has said that they did not take the tariffs into consideration when making the prices, but that is not what I meant. The world is either already or headed into a economy where "a lot of money" isn't real anymore. There will only be "more." Nintendo has always been behind other companies in price, features (they are just now getting game chat, XBox did that back in 2002), and everything in between. If Nintendo does not catch up, or make as much money, or stays ahead of everybody, they will loose investors, sponsors, developers, partners, and there will be no more Nintendo. It sucks to say this but if you would like to keep Nintendo, in the way the world is, the need to just keep getting bigger, and bigger, and raising prices even more, and more. I can't say this enough, but Nintendo is not the enemy, the world leaders promoting this behavior is. So, here is some tips on how to still get the unfair products, but not encourage Nintendo and this kind of bad behavior. Do not buy Mario Kart World, if you want it, get the bundle instead. Nintendo will realize that 80$ is incredibly too much. Joy-Cons come included with a Switch 2, so if you want that, just buy a Switch 2, and if for some reason you need more, buy each Joy-Con separately in the Nintendo shop which saves you 10$. Do things like this, do not encourage this kind of corporate greed, but at the same time, still get the Switch 2 if you can and want too!
