gm, it's been a little over a week since the game launched and honestly it's felt like months to me lol. I'm not dead and I'm not quite ready to abandon the game now, but I have been recovering from the flu in the meantime and I've been taking notes on what to change here and there.
The response has been a little overwhelming honestly. A little stressing sometimes but overall I'm happy that people were able to find some enjoyment with the game. It's not perfect, not even close... overall though it was a fun learning experience that taught me a lot about making games that weren't FNAF for a change.
If you couldnt tell I dont have much of a structure for this post lol, I just wanted to voice my thoughts and respond to some things regarding the game.
Controller support???
This is the #1 thing I've been receiving for sure! It might be disappointing but I don't know if I'll implement it for this game. Sure it's TECHNICALLY possible in Clickteam but it's weird and messy and complicated to add in a way it just isn't for any other modern game engine.
There are other ways to use a controller with a game, like JoyToKey or adding the game as a non-Steam game and using Steam Input to map keyboard keys to a controller. There's other methods out there too, I'm sure, but truthfully I am not motivated to spend (maybe weeks) figuring it out for a game that'll be taken down anyway and for an engine I'm not really interested in making games for anymore. I apologize, but that's truthfully how I feel about it. I'd rather spend the time moving on to new projects.
Overlapping directional inputs? (+ other fixes)
Yeah I'm planning to figure out how to modify the controls to not freeze Link when two keys are pressed lol. I'll also try to see what's going on with other odd glitches like cave entrances not appearing (truthfully I have no idea what causes this) In the next update I release I plan to have other quality of life features too like improving the flute's teleporting system and adding an item hotswap key.
Open source?
Honestly, yes, I plan on doing this! After some time has passed and I release an update I'll drop the .mfa file somewhere so you guys can mess around with the game and update it however you'd like :)
Personally since I'm not too motivated to continue it myself (I'd like to move on to original game ideas) I figure this would be the next best thing.
When it does drop, just know you won't need to credit me to use it or anything like that. It's public domain- change stuff, release updates, mod it, use the graphics for anything you want, whatever! It'll all be yours to mess around with.
Won't Nintendo take it down??
Definitely, no doubt about it. Part of me is a little surprised it lasted this long so far. Admittedly though, once I release the code, I am considering taking it down myself, just in case. It wouldn't be the first time I'd receive a DMCA for one of my games.
RAMBLING OVER!
I think that's about all I have for now. Like I said the response has been kind of overwhelming, a little stressful, sometimes I get the feeling the game's reception is mixed or it wasn't worth releasing, but I won't let that stop me from appreciating the support it has received so far, it's been incredible to see
And my apologies for staying quiet, I have been reading as many comments as I can and I've been taking notes! Personally I'd like to move on after an update or two, I hope you understand!
