I've been quietly working on a new game for a while now, one that I've dreamed of creating for many years, and now it's finally at a stage where I feel I can share a bit.

Beatbov and Friends Road Trip, is a mix between a horror game and a roguelike.

In the spirit of roguelikes each playthrough offers a unique experience with procedurally-generated night maps and roadmap, and scanners to pick from.

Survive the nights or win mini-games to collect tokens, which you can use to refresh your choices or unlock animatronics, scanners, story elements, and more.

The game art style features a retro-inspired pixel art, reminiscent of classic handheld games.

So far, the features include:

  • 16 different animatronics

  • 10 run variations options

  • 4 mini-games

  • 3 biomes

Note this is still in development and things shown may change.

What do you think so far? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Cheers,
Life-Lich

I'm planning to release an early access version of my game within the next week! It will be playable in your browser. The picture shows the icons of the animatronics, those that are transparent are still in progress and might be included at launch.

I’ve been working on several different things: minigames, story events, and polishing the office.

What do you think about the new door lights? I hope they add to the horror.

The lights turn on gradually when you lower the dashboard or open the doors.

This is one of the more complex animated jump scares in my game. The broken screen effect lasts for 20 secs.

If there's anything you want to see, please let me know in the comments! 👇

Sorry it's been a while! I’ve included a development update in the article. Would you be interested in challenge nights that players can pick from the menu?

I've just released the Early Access version, as promised! On top of that, it will be FREE during the Early Access period, so you can play it right now in your browser! https://life-lich.itch.io/beatbov-and-friends-road-trip

I’ve made some edits to the map generator and have been working on the story events. Story events give the player some options out of 5. I want the options to be partially based on the animatronics in your band, but I’m having some trouble with it.

I’ve been working on the menu, and creating jump scares, more info is included in the article. I’m not so sure about Siren’s jump scare. I like the idea of her pulling the player close, but I’m not sure if it works as a jump scare. What do you think?

Since my last post, I’ve been working on adding new tools that set rooms on Fire and i have been experimenting with ways to introduce some story events on the roguelite map. Here’s another jump scare from the game.

Voyage Ventures Aquarium Park, an important missing piece of the puzzle, is now being included. There are still a lot of missing elements, on the bright side, we now have all the companies now. Devlog is included in the article.

Just as Pecaminosa's musicians #improvise this rendition of #LittleSunflower 🌻, so do we improvise with this post you're reading. 😂

What's coming out of your own improvs? 🤔
