Indies VS PewDiePie

Game Jolt Presents a Game Jam Hosted by PewDiePie. Make a game that is funny to play, funny to watch, fun for all! The community votes and PewDiePie plays the winners!

When you’ve had enough of jumpscares and serious videogames, when disease and war dominates the news, what solace can you seek? What refuge amidst the despair of modern life? I’ll tell you. It’s laughter, my friends. And that’s what this jam is all about. We are proud to announce the 1st ever:

{% pullquote Indies VS PewDiePie Game Jam - All for fun and fun for all! %}

Popular Let’s Player PewDiePie (you might have heard of him) is a longtime supporter of indie gaming and a big fan of Game Jolt. If you’ve watched much of his stuff, you’ve probably seen lot of Game Jolt games being played. PewDiePie’s videos have introduced countless viewers to tons of cool indie games. We’re excited to partner with him for this jam!

Fun to Play, Fun to Watch, Fun for All!

The theme of Indies VS PewDiePie is fun to play, fun to watch, with an emphasis on laughter.

Everyone is invited to participate in the jam. You’ll have 72 hours to make a game that is fun, silly, frustrating, surprising, bizarre, ridiculous, challenging, sly, clever, astonishing, and/or hilarious. Games for this jam should entertain the player as well as anyone watching it played.

Submitted games must be made exclusively for this jam. All game assets must be created during the 72 hour jam period. More rules are on the jam homepage.

After the jam, judging will be opened up to everyone and the entire Game Jolt community will rate the games. Once the ratings are calculated, our host PewDiePie will play the 10 highest rated games on his channel!

Dates

  • Jam Starts: Nov. 21 (12:00 AM EST)

  • Jam Ends / Voting Begins: Nov. 24 (12:00 AM EST)

  • Voting Ends: Dec. 1 (12:00 AM EST)

Participate

Even if you’re not making a game, you can watch participants livestream game development, follow the activity feed, drop by the dedicated chat room, comment on games, and give feedback during the jam.

If you tweet about the jam using the hashtag #indiesvspewdiepie, your tweet will show up in the jam activity feed.

After the jam, YOU and the rest of the Game Jolt community will be able to judge the games and decide for yourselves which ones inspire the most delight.

Keep in mind that this is not an “impress PewDiePie” competition. He is hosting the jam and playing the winning games, but the community will be judging them.

Have Fun, Y’all!

The official rules, instructions on how to enter, the announcement video, and more details are on the Indies VS PewDiePie homepage.

There are some frequently (and not so frequently) asked questions and answers here.

Any help spreading the word will be appreciated. We expect a Good Old Fashioned Fun Time (TM) to be had by all!

Be silly, be funny, be wacky, but most of all… be indie!

Modded a Game Gear! Took a long time, but I'm really happy with the results. New screen, speakers, shell, rechargeable batteries, all that. Even has an FM radio chip in it so that when it runs Master System games, it has better music.

Oof, got three sticker packs and got super unlucky with my drop rates for the star haha. I gotta master them all though!

My custom-made controller. Click click.

Ah yes, programming documentation.

My grumpy dog doing yoga.

Just noticed this on our bidet... Now I'm scared to use it.

After about 6 months, I started working on my custom controller again for retro gaming!

I designed the PCBs for the analog sticks, got them made, and check them out! They fit in perfectly.

Next step, building out the whole main PCB.

Here we go!

Ohh, what's this? You can see all the stickers in a sticker pack before buying/opening now. Finally.

All right, time to place my haul. I need mastery of these stickers.
