ive been trying not to spoil much of Spongebob Squarepants Treasure Hunt - The 2004 Patch (the update/sequel), but here's a peek at some familiar gameplay... IN HD!!!


treasurehunt was made in gamemaker studio 1. specifically, the steam release, which has been out of service for almost a decade now, barely functions, and most importantly, runs at 30 fps. as a motivator for me to actually finish it, SSTH's update (or sequel? it will either be a new release or a new download on this page, it's called The 2004 Patch) is ported to gamemaker studio 2, so now you can play your garbage haunted shovelware in mouth-watering 60 FPS and fullscreen!

as a side effect of being ported to a new, higher framerate engine, alot of functions needed to be reworked, notably collisions with enemies and blocks. with all those extra frames added to the equation, the game's enemy collisions went from bad to unplayably bad. now, if you fall ontop of an enemy, you'll kill it as long as your feet are anywhere above the enemy's center, allowing for much less frustrating platforming (especially on the infamous final stage, which is likely getting completely redone because i'm not very proud of its execution). also the camera zoom (something many people complained about due to it being disorienting) got toned down a ton. i was tempted to remove it because increasing the resolution like that isn't possible on hardware, but it lets you see more of the screen during the action so whatever, it's staying.

i cannot guarantee 2004patch's release. i'm popping in on this to occasionally get some work done while also juggling CTI's final update and my own homelife - however, with all of these small but necessary improvements inherent to a better, more modern engine, if i end up giving up on it, you'll all receive the game's gms2 port regardless. so, even if i end up never wanting to make games ever again, you're getting something out of it.

yes this is me capitalizing on treasurehunt's recent mainstream coverage. i'm very predictable. whatever.
