Hey everyone! Welcome to this month’s devlog of Hack’s Custom Night.
I will be going over a couple of things done in the past 30 days/month during the game's development, and what my current plans are. In terms of programming the game, there hasn't been too much done on that apartment. However, in terms of different medias, there's quite a bit to go over.
PROMOTIONAL ART
Let's first talk about this artwork over here!
This is an artwork done by me and several others that have helped out! It was initially made for Kane Carter's BMC Creator Showcase event on his Twitter and GameJolt page. However, due to some miscommunication, I released the artwork much earlier. Because of that, I have to resort to creating exclusive gameplay footage for the showcase, which you can read or watch later in this post.
Needless to say, I am super proud on how this artwork turned out. I had a vision on what it would look like, and truly this delivers pretty well on what Hack's Custom Night would look like.
If we are gonna talk about how this artwork was processed, then let me just tell you how EXHAUSTING it is to create it. To give you a good idea on how exhausting it is in short, it took 20+ hours to get everything setup and done. Normally I would talk about it here in detail, but I have recorded the entire process of me drawing the canvas, and I do want to make a video about its process. I plan on editing and finishing the timelapse video by the end of this month (or whenever it gets released.)
For now, here are the people that have helped out!~

GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE
If you haven't heard or seen, Hack's Custom Night's gameplay footage was released in Kane Carter's BMC Creator Showcase posts! Like I said before, although it wasn't intentional for the gameplay footage to be made, I am actually happier that it turned out this way, because it does present how Hack's Custom Night is gonna play. Do keep in mind though that everything is subject to change! Any comments or criticisms are welcome in this matter!~
GAME PAGE
There isn't much to go over here, but the game page has gotten a huge overhaul look! The description has been refilled, the promotional art is used, and more information has been added about the game! If you haven't already, go check out the description!
I still want to make some changes to enhance the look of the page, but I wanted to make these changes quickly for Kane's BMC Showcase event. Later on, the game page will have more changes. When it does, I will let you all know!~
AUDIO CAPTIONS
Lastly, let's get into something more technical!
In Five Nights at Freddy's, including its fangames, they have conditions that require the player to have in order to play its product properly. Most prominently, it usually requires players to have headphones in order to get the best experience the games have to offer, which does give into a more unique experience. However, when it comes to playing games on the go as let's say, the FNaF console ports (especially FNaF 4), elements like that can be extremely tricky to deal with, especially when it has really specific elements like panning.
Hence why I am here to introduce, Audio Captions in HCN!
As you can see here, there is a list of audio indicators at the bottom right side of the screen, letting you know what audio is being played at the moment. It isn't shown in footage, but there IS extra indicators on which side the audio is coming from. Although it works, it still has some issues like flickering when it gets updated. For the time being, I can't find a good solution for this, but hopefully, I will be able to fix it later on.
Why did I implement this?
I wanted to take into account for players who either don't have headphones or want to play the game in a different media. For a game like this, I think it is unfair to require players to use headphones in order to play it properly as it does require some listening. I can only hope audio captions would be a good alternative option for players who play in different medias! (Speaker Users, Steam Deck Owners, and etc.)
That is all I wanted to showcase for today. I hope you all liked what was done from the past 30 days. I am looking forward to create more progress for the next 30 days!~
Take care everyone! 💜
