Hey, hey, hey, hey! Put yo lighters up!! It's--... purrsum. My name is Purrsum the Kindred Spirits guy.
UNDEREVENT 2024 has finally premiered, and we were permitted to upload our trailers on YouTube for the public to see, like, comment, and subscribe!
In this devlog I'd like to talk you through the contents of the trailer and explain a thing or two!
Starting with...

What's been shown in the trailer is the semi-final layout for the Sewers. There's a lot of things we still haven't revealed, however, so there's surely a lot for you to explore :)
Tortule's got some spotlight... So what happened to Artentide?
We decided that it'd suit the story better if we saved Artentide for one of the future areas coming in the full release. His character has always been pretty hard to write considering all the ideas we had for him for a good while. But I can say with certainty that we found a good place for his story to unravel and we're confident that it's going to make the overall story of the game flourish way more than it would if he was just shoe-horned into the Sewers.

At the time when the trailer's production was still in its early stages, I had the impression that the Sewers looked a little grim and plain with not a lot of colors to spice up the layout.
I decided it'd be a great idea to have the walls of the Sewers painted with all sorts of graffiti to give the place some life.

Going into this year's event (last year's... I mean 2024...) I want to mention that the layout has changed significantly since the initial trailer. It's only been a couple of months since we announced the game originally, and had very little time to scramble something up for a proper teaser trailer. I can say with confidence that only 2 environments from that trailer (not counting the elevator shaft) will make it into the final cut of the Sewers, both of which went through a few iterations to get them to look just right.

After getting revealed years ago, the Notebook has received a finalized, simplistic design.
We've updated the look of the Notebook's UI, including a new custom font made by @Radiaction and scribbly illustrations in place of stickers that the Notebook UI was originally revealed with (could you even tell they were stickers though?)

We teased a semi-new mechanic called Gear a few years ago, but this is the first time we're properly showing you what it does.
Gear, as seen by the screenshots, can bring unique game-changing mechanics either for one of the girls or for the whole team.
Additionally, since the release of the Prologue Chapter, we've sort of teased a little icon that still hasn't gotten an explanation.
Introducing: Permanent Equipment Amplification Ranks!
(PEARs for short, subject to change!)
Those little dots you see next to WEAPON and ARMOR act as a permanent boost for the character's equipment. The visual might still be subject to change.
Moving on to the next portion!

Starting with the Catacombs! It's been a while since the original trailer aired, but with this one, we finally feel confident enough to say that this area will not be making an appearance in the Sewers Demo.
Last year the team and I (mostly after @poody_blue came back from his ancient slumber) were polishing our plans for the future areas of the game, and we quickly figured out that the Catacombs no longer had a purpose for the Sewers' story, and thus the area became it's own little chapter with its own story to tell.
We can't wait to share more details about it after the demo's release :)

Pictured above are 2 new areas that will appear after the Catacombs. It's way too early to say what they're all about off the gate, but we'll let you speculate based on the few things we've shown off already.
Now that we're all done with the breakdown, I want to say thank you to the organizers over at Underevent: FMSDraws, Octo, and therustysfm, for giving our team this opportunity to showcase our work in this format.
Regarding the release window for the Sewers Demo, it's likely going to take a while to finish it. I'm currently an immigrant trying to gain citizenship in a safer country, but I'm having trouble settling in. If things go well, then the Sewers Demo is guaranteed to come out this year, no questions asked. I'll say the chances of any problems appearing in the future are sort of 50/50 at the moment. If anything does appear, I want you all to know that this project will never be canceled, no matter how long of a hiatus it has to take for me to get back to work. This is a fun project I've had the great opportunity of working on with my friends and I want to keep working on it as long as it takes before it's fully finished.
With all that being said, thank you for watching the trailer and reading this devlog if you did! The future is looking very bright for the Undertale community with so many amazing games still in development, all with super high quality and unique style.
See you guys next time! Whenever that will be... Hopefully right before the next playable release!
