King's Sea Is Now Complete!

Released V1.10


I finally did it! I implemented beating things to death with items. Except I also changed my mind about that and made it throwing instead.

Now, creatures with hands can pick up and then eat, or throw things. Throwing is basically a way to defend yourself from predators when your satiation is low. And, depending on how many hands a creature has, the pickup and throw costs are different. (Right now, it’s kind of silly because I mostly used it as a balancing thing, like, lobsters technically have “4” hands, but that’s because I figured their claws are especially powerful so it should cost less for them to pick up and throw stuff lol.)

It’s silly, but it works.

This is the final major feature I wanted to add! The next update will just be fleshing out what’s there, in preparation for maybe putting this on Steam as a finished game.

And this game is technically complete now :D As in no more features left in the trello to add!

Which is actually an accomplishment for me, because I never finish things lol.

Also just like in all my Roguelikes you can now eat the worng thing and choke to death. Or poison yourself. Or whatever else. Since you have full freedom here lmao

Also did a big UI overhaul, plus all sorts of little tweaks for balance. And I added a bunch of new creatures! Every creature from the original Odell Lake game is in now, along with a handful of totally made-up sapient and non-sapient critters, so you’ll get even more variety (and enlightenment) in your worlds.

Plus, I’ve added a ton more music tracks. Whenever a song plays in-game (After the base one), it’s credited, because I want this to feel like a meditative experience!

Changes:

-Added the ability to pick up and use and throw items. (Which officially makes this a roguelike!)

--The more hands a creature has, the less energy it takes to pick up and throw things (Well less chance their energy (satiation) goes down. This is to make it mor eoptimal to use items then to flee for example.

--All creatures with hands now have an inventory which can hold one item (and you can hack it to hold more if you want to cheat by editing block files lol)

--All hands get different nouns and plurla nouns (So for a lobster they are called claws) which show sup in various text in game.

--If you can eat the thing you killed by throwing an item at it, you will, even if it is bigger than you. Sicne you kiled it via your tool. THis means you can get satiation from killing things by throwing items at them.

-World history events match death types.

-Added silly throwing animation

-Diets are now included in teh decriptrions of all creatures, so you know what they can eat.

-Fixed various bugs with the enlightenment system

-Fixed various bugs with canon viewer

-If you throw a plant at a plant they annihilate each other like antimatte rhitting matter.

-Old age ghosts are okay with you eating next to them, they wont attack and you survive in that case.

-Old age deaths are now region tied.

-Lake whitefish no longer show up in rivers (replaced by Kochnee Salmon)

-Music now loops in canon viewer, in game, and in teh device screen

--In game it can play a different track when teh rtack is done. With soem easter egg tracks and a bunch mroe meditative tracks. (Royalty free

-Fixed bug with deep escaping from fishers

-Added  a ton of new creatures to play as!

-New art for various things, including "the device"

-Improved UI

-Fixed other bugs

-Removed the "alpha" notices as this game is now basiclaly complete.

Future Plans:

I still want to flesh out the text generators for all the new content in this update (they’re kinda barebones right now compared to the rest of the game).

But after that, it’s just a little polish here and there, if I feel like it. No promises lol.

Then I’ll work on getting it up on Steam as a free download! 

...That 3rd one is guaranteed to happen.

Then i will start on a new game!

As far as I’m concerned, this game is officially done in the philosophical sense.

Honestly, the whole game is kind of a philosophical experience anyway given that you can become a buddah fish.
