Hello again
So, what’s up with the game. Come up with anything?
The baby has typed out its first words: We’ve got a dialogue system!
It’s not finished yet, nothing really is until we say so, but it’s definitely a great step in the right direction. Now we can actually write actual written story, dialogue, etc. that you’ll be able to enjoy in the final game.
How exactly are you writing the story?
Well, in our case we’ve been developing the story since we began this project, which is about a little over a year. We’ve come a long way since the first draft.
Spending a lot of time on it isn’t equal to it being complete, however. We know all of the ‘bulletpoints’ of the story: The goals, the characters, conflicts, the lore and how things will begin and end.
All the specifics and details are things that we make up as we write the dialogue. This gives us an ‘in-the-moment’ feeling of what is right and thereby the story will flow naturally. It won’t be pre-scripted parts that are stitched together last minute.
Right now we’re working on the game’s intro. It’s going to be nice. >:]
The Code Corner
It’s about code. It’s the coder segment of the devlog. REVOLUTIONARY!!!
I asked the game’s programmer (@RocketBoyweee ) what inputs he had for the devlog. Here’s what we got, quote:
“Completely redesigned database for all items that need to be saved:
Inventory items, Objects around the scene, Levels…
Encountered glitch with inventory database where there were duplicate objects.
Game crashed probably like 10 times while configuring everything so things went quite well during development.
Did some front end development for dialogue: setting up the dialogue and making it look sexy.
Encountered glitch with dialogue where multiple pieces of text weren’t appearing.
Fixed glitch after numerous crashes.
Crashes.
Most of the front-end development for dialogue has been completed.
Now the game has a proper database with dialogue.
Dead.”
We got a lot of development done this month. Too bad the coder is dead. Good thing he made a duplicate of himself before he died. Would’ve been a real bummer if not.
Feel free to send some letters of encouragement. That always helps with avoiding death.
That wraps it up for this month. What’s next month’s subject? Hmmm…
We’ll figure something out. :-) See you guys/gals in a month!
O K, Bye.
PS.: In reference to our last ‘PS’, it was probably nothing. We haven’t seen anything from it since the last devlog, so it’s probably gone for now. Please send us a message if you see anything suspicious.
