Just vibing at my desk when boom — something flies in through the window. At first, I thought it was missing a few legs, but turns out it was just doing a little interpretive leg dance. It landed on my finger and started... observing me. So naturally, I observed it back. Mutual curiosity unlocked.
Chonky, a little fuzzy up front, smooth in the back, tiny head — 10/10 forest goblin aesthetic. Did a quick search and voilà: Summer Chafer (Amphimallon solstitiale). A classic June beetle. Small, round, and clearly full of summer energy.
Took it outside, placed it gently into the flowerbed. As soon as we hit the night air, it perked up, got all active — like I’d just dropped it off at its favorite club. 🌸
It’s now June 30, 12:07 AM, peak magical bug hour. He’s chillin’ among the leaves like a tiny cryptid of the lawn. Hope he has a great night.
P.S. He was still, polite, and very photogenic. My camera, however, disagreed.
