| MIRACULOUS: TALES OF LADYBUG & CAT NOIR SEASON 4 EPISODE 4: MR.PIGEON 72 - REVIEW | 🐀

The Legend Returns!

WARNING: I will try to keep this as spoiler free as possible, but there is a chance there could still be spoilers so I recommend you watch the episode first! ⚠

DISCLAIMER: Remember this is all my opinion so I would appreciate that you respect it even if your opinion is totally different to mine, In fact if it is I would like to hear your opinion because I think that everyone should be able to let their voice be heard! πŸ’¬

So let us begin!

BRIEF SUMMARY:

Mr Pigeon 72..... Why does Shadow Moth keep using him? I don't know?!?! Ask Astruc!!

With that little outburst aside let's get into the episode review!

We begin (presumably) a short while after Marinette tells Alya her secret Identity in Mari's room where we see Marinette able to pour all the feelings and ideas she kept stuck inside, clearly showing that she was not okay prior to her telling Alya and that she needed to someone to vent to! And let me just say, I actually really liked how they started the next episode already showing benefits of her being able to open up to someone she has had to lie to for so long without making it feel forced. Although I do wish we did get more of a reaction of Alya, because being the person she is Alya probably had asked dozens of questions about be one of the 2 heros of Paris! It's not a problem more just a nitpick, so it wasn't a big deal..

Marinette continues stating how SM has been reakumatizing people lately due to him being able to know their emotions and weaknesses, and that if she could stop him from reakumatizing people he would be ruined! Unfortunately, she is seen to be having trouble finding a way to do so, so being the friend she is, Alya persuades Mari to take a break and continues to tell Mari that Adrien and Kagami have broken up.. (Continuation twice already?!??!? In Miraculous?!?!?!) Although rather than Marinette wanting to take advantage of that and try and get closer to Adrien she did the exact opposite saying that she needed to help Kagami get back with Adrien again... Which I liked, we're so used to Marinette being somewhat selfish when it comes to Adrien that this is a breath of fresh air!

So she goes to see Kagami, once she meets up with her friend Marinette proceeds to say that once Kagami and Adrien see each other again they would fall in love again, stalker mode intiated!!!! Usually I get a bit annoyed with her stalker like ways when it comes to Adrien, but unlike other times she was trying to help a friend and not herself, and while I don't promote stalker like behavior but I can forgive this instance because this is not for her selfish intent and the fact that in this instance she isn't really stalking, more or less just following a celebrity in public, like all Adrien's other fans also in this instance it's obvious this is for comedic affect!

So Mari and Kagami arrive at the.... pool??? Yes you heard me, they arrive at the pool where Adrien is modeling in an add for something with Bob Roth and Mr. Ramier! So begins Marinette's several attempts of trying to get Kagami to fall back in love with Adrien, to cut things short the funny sequence ends with Mari and Adrien bumping into one another on the diving board and falling into the pool, with pigeons flying all around....how.... romantic...... While this sequence was bit.... odd, it was funny at some moments none the less and unlike the other weird Marinette stalking-ish stuff this one was actually bearable and somewhat funny imo...

After that sequence of events Edgar, one of Mr. Ramier's pigeons gets injured and Bob Roth, who at the point was already frustrated (because of a sequence of problems with the pigeons) lost his cool telling Mr. Ramier that he will not tell the Mayor to make a safe place for pigeons (for that is why Mr. Ramier was helping with the ad) and instead make sure pigeons are no longer allowed in Paris at all!

Hawkie Time!

Mr. Pigeon is back for round 72, although this time he can turn people into pigeons!

Now this battle with Mr. Pigeon was short-lived, yet unique and very cool! Not only was the fight interesting, but also helped prove another benefit of Alya knowing the identity of Ladybug!

Chat Noir (Adrien) who was MIA, because of being transformed into a pigeon lost his Kwami: Plagg, whom then found Ladybug who was stuck in a changing room with pigeons block he way out.. Ladybug gave her best friend a call who just figured out the solution to Marinette's problem, but that would have to wait, because Ladybug needed Rena Rouge!

So the battle ensues with Rena using her power of illusion to create fake copies of Ladybug & Cat Noir to lure Mr. Pigeon into our hero's trap! Eventually Mr. Pigeon is lure all through the city and eventually back to the pool where the illusions of our heroes throw their Miraculouses into the water forcing Mr. Pigeon to chase after the jewels, SM begins to celebrate but his happy moment won't last long, Mr. Pigeon hadn't realized it was a trick until it was too little too late, Plagg rush up grabbed the akumatized object and brought it to Ladybug (who was still in the changing room) and then she broke it and captured the akuma! I really enjoyed this akuma fight, it was very unique and really had no fighting involved and really proved Alya's worth.

After the battle Mr. Ramier apologizes and says he wishes his emotions wouldn't continue to be taken advantage of, unfortunately Ladybug says she is sorry but there is no wa- wait! Rena appears telling LB that she figured it out! A holders powers are only limited by themselves and that Ladybug isn't only the guardian but also the Ladybug miraculous holder! And with that confidence Ladybug's suit transforms and she creates a small charm, a magical charm that is able to repel akumas! She gives it to Mr. Ramier who runs around in glee! I have a few things to say about this.

  • First unlike some people I like the introduction of the Magical charm, they make sense both how they are created and why and may encourage others to upgrade their powers as well! (We'll get into that in the Dearest Family review)

  • Second I love that they used Mr. Pigeon as the villain to introduce these, seeing as he is the person not only most vulnerable to akumas he has also been akumatized the most, so it makes sense that the episode an akuma protection method is introduced in an episode that Mr. Pigeon is in!

  • Third, and this is a small issue I have and it has to do with Alya's relevancy. She wasn't very relevant to this episode so to make her such and important character for this plot point without her having much relevancy in the episode (except for the first few minutes) is a bit disappointing.

After the introduction to the magical charms we see Mari and Kagami outside the pool in the rain. Where Kagami says she felt romantic feelings.... but from Marinette, Mari's the one who stutters and blushes near Adrien, Mari's the one who knows Adrien's schedule 3 years over..... She said Adrien is perfect, he's perfect for Marinette.... And while yes, I agree with the statement of him being perfect for her.... Mari knowing Adrien's schedule 3 years over is... NOT a good reason for that, and I feel like they could've used a different reason for Kagami's statement.....

And then.... and then.... Adrien comes out and sees Mari with the Umbrella he gave her in S1 and asks that she's kept it all this time.... And at this point I could hardly believe we were getting a real canon umbrella scene for the first time in like 5 years!!!! And while not as good as the original, it was still an great moment! Marinette's confidence grows within this scene, Adrien gets clutz-y around Mari and it all together is just a great ending to a really good episode!

ANIMATION:

The animation for this episode, wasn't.... the best in comparison to the 3 episodes prior, but it was still nice looking. The Character movement was pretty good and the effects were decent, but I did find that the reflection and movement of the hair was a bit wonky and that at times the lighting wasn't too great. But all in all the animation was fine.

VERDICT:

This episode was altogether a very solid one, while it was a weaker in comparison to the episodes prior it was still a pretty strong episode! It had some great and funny moments, I liked seeing Alya able to prove her worth while also making for an interesting akuma battle and the benefits of Alya knowing Mari's identity even though her doing that was a major part of her little relevancy within the episode. I enjoyed the Marigami moments (albeit happening because of Mari's stalker like behavior) as well as the very surprising umbrella scene at the end of the episode! The introduction of the Magical made sense and I personally was fine with them, All in all this episode was a very solid one and I really enjoyed this one and I am actually glad for a more light hearted and fun episode after the angst driven episodes prior to this! I'm glad the writers were able to make this episode fun while also progressing the plot! I also thought that the animation while not as nice as the prior episodes was still pretty decent.

I am going to give the animation a...

ANIMATION RATING: 7.5/10

I am going to give the episode altogether a...

EPISODE RATING: 8.8/10

CONCLUSION:

This episode was a fun treat and was able to progress the plot while also having some nice moments! I really enjoyed this episode! Also why is no one talking about the fact that Mr. Ramier is an absolute legend for being akumatized 72 times without giving up for what he loved? What a Chad!

So what do guys think of the episode? Was it Good, Bad? The Best Episode, The Worst?

I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions in the comments below! πŸ’¬
