Introducing: Bad Bears.
The game
Bad Bears is an arcade/platforming oriented first person shooter. Not my first shooter (there is sober, top down Darwin’s Nightmare on iPhone) but decidedly my first multiplayer game.
Make it easy to find other players
You know how indie multiplayer games can suffer from empty game rooms, right? That in and of itself is enough to kill a good game in the crib. From the get go I’ve put the emphasis on keeping players together with cool features to help you find opponents!
Alarm sounds when a new player enters the game (from the main menu)
Matching attempts to put you in a non-empty room (this is why, although there are 4 rooms, you can’t choose!)
Leaderboards
Another thing I want to get right is leaderboards. I designed a very special P2P leaderboards system. But then I realised this wouldn’t work in the web player so I immediately got to work and put up global leaderboards, now in preview mode.
Amazing St**
Yes! I have amazing ideas to make this game better.
Like…
Ghosts (actually, you can sorta preview them in a hidden mode, if it even works).
A bullet hell variant.
Melee weapons.
A whole diversity of unexpectedly free-flowing missions
…
Did I mention I want this game (behind its cute appearance) to be ultra-competitive? There will be dedicated (surprise!) boards to emphasise this aspect, as well as updated gameplay features.
Having said that, I’m not gonna get ahead of myself: the game is still in alpha with very crude maps, therefore I’ll be ironing out the kinks and improving maps before moving on to greater things.
P.lease follow the game and don’t forget to share your ideas/feedback!
