My review on Hello Neighbor VR on the Quest 3!

-First I wanted to say thank you guys so much for the positive response from my Meta Quest 3 review! Also thank you for all the devil stickers on the post for some reason… There is a lot I want to say about the game. A LOT. This will probably become bigger than my headset review. A lot of people are gonna hate me for saying this but… Hello Neighbor VR is one of the best VR games I have played in a very long time and why you should buy it.

First I want to talk about the style and graphics of the game cause they were impressive! I played this on a stand alone device so none of the games look good but this game changed that. The lighting was really well made and it shows. Textures were really good, lighting was amazing, and all the models have more then 3 polygons unlike all other Vr games.
The environment for this game were pretty good! There were a few issues here and there yes but most of it was pretty good. The environment was very detailed and you can tell they put their souls into this. All the holes in the walls and ceiling with god rays going through them really sets the atmosphere. When in the attic of the house it honestly creeped me out cause of how different the tone was compared to the normal rooms. But there are a few issues. For example collision on the walls and doors. Dear god to they need fixing. The collision on the doors when you are running from the neighbor sometimes just doesn’t want to work and you can just fly through the door. When you are trying to fit items through walls the collision messes up the items completely causing them to go through the floor. Near the end of the game when you are in the basement getting chased by the neighbor he can just fly through the stairs and props around the map which really broke the immersion which sucks cause this game is a really immersive game. The environment and making your hands a solid object to the world really makes this game come alive.
Now I want to talk about the gameplay. Dear lord it is the most creative gameplay I have ever seen. At the beginning of the game you are given a walkie which you can use to switch characters. Some characters can only access certain locations then others so you have to bring items from other areas and through holes in the walls, floor, and fences you have to get items to the other characters so they can use them. They do this in the best way possible. And each character has their own unique item to use in certain areas. Like a baseball bat or a slingshot. This makes the game never seem boring cause you are always seeing new things and doing different things with multiple characters. The puzzles were also so perfect. There was only really one puzzle that gave me problems compared to the 100s of other ones. FROM NOW ON I AM GONNA BE TALKING ABOUT THE ENDING SO SPOILER ALERT!! Towards the middle of the game one of your characters gets stuck in the basement when the other characters are still in the house trying to help the character in the basement but one by one the neighbor captures every character and locks them in the basement. After all the characters get captured you switch POVs to a new character which was a missing kid that you see posters about every where. You get help from a character from hello neighbor 2 known as the guest ( which was a badass review tbh ) And the guest gives you the ability to switch between the guest and yourself. You then have to complete more puzzles when being stuck in the basement to unlock your friends from the neighbor. The gameplay was the best with all the parkour and climbing with the puzzles and everything was just so good!!! I loved it.
I want to talk about story because there wasn’t much compared to other hello neighbor games. The story was very linear if that. You are just a bunch of kids that breaks into your neighbors house to search for your friend that your neighbor kidnapped. That’s really it. The only thing that didn’t make sense with the story was the entirety of the guest. But it’s pretty linear.
I want to make an entire paragraph just for animations because DEAR GOD IS THE ANIMATION GOD TIER! It’s so smooth and has so much life and it’s just amazing.
So gamejolt didn’t like to save my work so now I have to rewrite half of this. But this section is supposed to be for bugs. Dear god there are a lot of them. I got soft locked multiple times throughout my gameplay. Lucky they patched most of the bugs that made the game bad but here are a few bugs I experienced. First the neighbor is a god like being and can fly and go through any wall and prop around the house. And because the hands are a solid object sometimes your hands will just throw you off the map like you are nothing. Love that. This also soft locks you… this happened many times to me even causing me to somehow escape the skybox… when you leave the skybox the game does a soft lock where YOU CANT EVEN LEAVE THE GAME??? Thank you game. Multiple moments where my hands disappear. Items would go into areas where you can’t get them causing you to restart. More soft locks and a lot more. One big I want to point out is a weird one. Basically there are yellow circles and squares around the map that are used to track the player and the AI. These boxes are invisible so no one can see them. The thing is that they aren’t invisible. The boxes are set in a timer and when that timer goes off. The boxes reappear. Now for the rest of the game you have to deal with annoying cubes all over the place. The game punishes you for playing the game… even though there are some game breaking bugs the game is still really good.
I am getting so tired of writing this… THIS IS THE 3RD TIME WRITING THIS!! Anyway despite all the bugs the game is the best hello neighbor game ever. Wanna know something funny? It’s not even made by the same people that made hello neighbor… the game was made by Steel wool studios. The people that made Security Breach. That explains why there was so many bugs. i just find it funny that the only good hello neighbor game wasnt even made by the orignal company. Despite all the bugs the game has a good enviroment, good tone, good story, amazing gameplay. It has it all! The only thing that would make this game even better is multiplayer! This game would be perfect for multiplayer!!! Hello Neighbor as a whole works amazing with VR!!! I hope we see more like this in the future! buy the game! Its worth it, i promise!
