This episode introduces you to the setting where the show happens the most, Lumon Industries, this episode also introduces you to the main characters, Mark S, Helly R, Dylan G, and Irving, this episode talks about the “Severance Procedure” which is where the employees on the Severed floor get a chip surgically implanted in their brains that separates their memories from their personal, and work life, when the employees are at work they are referred to as “Innies” while outside of work, they are referred to as “Outies.” Helly’s Innie tries multiple times to leave the building but since her Innie only exists inside of work, every exit door she enters through ultimately does not work. Mark S, the manager of MDR since the last manager left for unknown reasons to not only MDR (Macro Data Refinement, the branch that the main characters work at) but their boss Melody Cobell and her assistant Seth Millchick as well, tries to get Helly R warmed up to Lumon Industries, but to no avail, she constantly sets off many alarms, breaking many rules to which Mark S has to be blamed for since he is Helly’s trainer. In this episode we get to see a bit of Mark’s Outie, he lives alone, and we find that he had a wife who had died in a car crash. We get to see one of Mark’s neighbors who is none other than Mrs. Cobell, Mark’s boss at Lumon, goes under a completely different name and since Mark’s memories are severed, he doesn’t know that his neighbor is his boss.
This episode is pretty awesome for an introduction to everything, the acting is amazing, the way that the show is filmed is really good, the show for me is a 10/10 but for this episode, I feel that I should give it an 9/10. Thank you to my friend who introduced me to Severance. Yes I suck at summarizing, I’m going off of memory with this one
