As much as I've toyed around with the idea of a third Fangame Direct, I can't say with much confidence that it's something that will happen anytime soon. I want to temper everyone's expectations because, believe it or not, there are still people that want another, which the thought of is just beyond me.
The original FD happened at the perfect time. Interest in fangames were slowly building back up in what many (just me) consider to be the "second coming" of fangames. Fangame developers and players have always had a very symbiotic relationship. As long as there are people willing to make games, there will always be people here to play them, and vice versa. Needless to say when there was a ton of new interest into the fangame scene, there were a ton of new developers who needed a spotlight for their projects. That's what Fangame Direct has always been, a spotlight for success. It's even our tagline.
I speak for a lot of people when I say that we're nearing a bit of a drought in fan content. With the main series being whatever the main series is now, and fangames having done about everything under the sun, I'm not sure what's next. Beyond a few major releases (TI 6.5, JR's ETF) I cannot see anything else happening for quite some time. This is very natural, we've seen this before. I have no doubt that in a couple of years from now fan content will be back and better than ever, but until then I can't promise anything.
There's probably a million more smaller details I could get into, but I'm working on a video on my experience with FD where I'll go into more detail with some of my reasoning. I just wanted to get this out there and off my chest. Thank you to everyone who supported both events, I hope this isn't the end, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
