Someday (maybe even with CDH4), I thought about the idea to start making my games in a 1920x1080 resolution instead of 1280x720. Additionally, with the use of Ultimate Fullscreen, I could finally allow players to have the option to toggle between fullscreen/windowed through the use of Ini saving (which is loooong overdue) instead of launching windowed every single relaunch.
I think the Ultimate Fullscreen object (when the game is in fullscreen) should automatically adjust screen size to fit on smaller resolution sizes with no issue (for example, the game being 1920x1080, but someone's monitor being 1600x900, so having the game fullscreen should theoretically automatically adjust the screen size to fit the monitor's aspect ratio).
Bumping up to 1920x1080 shouldn't really slow down the art process, because it is literally the same process, just on a bigger scale. The simplest thing I can imagine (which I hope doesn't come back and bite me) is just increase the brush size. It should basically be the same style the game is used to at 1280x720, but hopefully sharper and more detailed because there are more pixels to work with.
Heck, on a much higer resolution, the panorama object could finally look decent instead of "random chunk tearing". One thing to keep in mind is that, with higher resolution sizes, there's always an issue of the panorama slowing down some machines, so making it be togglable would be a good design choice.
Does this mean I'm already working on a new game? No, I am still on break and I don't have the energy to start working yet.
How much will file-size be affected? Well, you will all be fine, but with the amount of assets that CDH4 may need, my storage will be the one crying (and I mean that literally. CDH1 Reopened's raw size is 2.51gb (also counting the game, demo and april fools demo) total with the amount of assets I have access to, so now I fear that 1920x1080 will absolutely cripple me)
I love getting random thoughts every time I am sick :]
(yes, I am still sick)
Anywhoo, I'll be heading out now.
Take care, stay safe, God bless!
