(It's gonna be a long post.)

Can you believe it? I had to watch an almost 8 hour long gameplay. Took me two days.

The main reason I even considered doing this is because of, of course, those Lisa fans. Who act as if it is the best RPG to have ever existed. Either better than Undertale, better than OMORI, or better than whatever RPG's name that comes to their minds

I've seen some Lisa fans claiming some really insane stuff in the past. Which, before watching the main game's gameplay, made me feel unnerved and thoughtful, even upto thinking that this game might actually be better than alot of the RPGs that have been mainstream and those that I've loved till now.

... But after watching the gameplay, I can safely say...

I was apparently lied to about alot of things.

Just to make this clear, this review isn't blatantly negative just because I don't like this game's fandom due to certain people, this review is gonna be as honest as possible.

And yeah, if you're a Lisa fan, this might be a painful review for you.

And I'm gonna be really honest about one thing here first. After watching the gameplay, it feels as if the fandom of this game is really overhyped by it.

Okay, so when talking about my one big problem with the game, it's gonna be that...

It's a scroll based RPG.

Why I got problem with it? It might be just me, but it would've been better if instead of a scroll based RPG, it would've been an Earthbound like RPG where you can walk around other directions instead of just right and left direction. And even if they wanted to keep it scroll based, they should've atleast made the fighting mechanics similar to Cave Story, then it would've been far better even as it is. The layout of the game is itself confusing.

I literally remember once seeing a guy in some comments section saying that Lisa has better graphics than OMORI. At that time I hadn't watched the gameplay. Despite that, I knew he was wrong and blatantly baised, and I knew I was right thinking that about the guy too, but I wasn't aware I was this right. The graphics of this game are only barely better than Undertale's, and utterly far from being better than OMORI'S graphics. And atleast you can see expressions of important characters in Undertale. In Lisa? Most of the times you can't even tell if someone's angry or sad.

The music? Don't bother thinking it's any special... Even OFF has better soundtrack than this game. Heck, I'm even gonna go far enough to say that some Yume Nikki soundtracks, which are just some music notes repeating, are better than most of Lisa The Painful's soundtracks. That goes atleast for me.

I once remember seeing a comment on Reddit, implying that Lisa has better characters basically. He said that every character in Lisa has a reason to exist, saying that most of the playable characters have a certain backstory. But to be honest? I literally don't even remember most of the characters you recruit, especially not their names. The guy even said that characters in Undertale don't go beyond "I AM X" and "I DO Y"... As if characters in Lisa are even memorable. Sure they might have messed up backstories but the game fails to present it in an appealing manner to begin with.

The story is kinda good, the game does have some heavy moments and topics with it's story. But the problem is, most of those heavy moments shown in the game feel really shallow and dull honestly. Probably because the game designs are made in such way that emotions and expressions are not very visible, and that many of those moments are short too, making them look dull and far less appealing compared to many of the moments shown in OMORI or Deltarune.

And there were very little amount of scenes in the game that actually felt like something to me. The ones that did included the final few parts of the game.

All in all, it's just an ok game at best. Not as great as it's fandom calls it to be though. Worth a short? Yeah sure if you're still willing to.

Better than OMORI, Undertale or Deltarune? Heck no, not even close. To me personally it's not even better than Cave Story.

One of my biggest reasons to even bother checking what this game has to offer, was solely because of that one OMORI hater in some Yume Nikki video comments section on Youtube. Bruh was literally calling OMORI an Earthbound and Yume Nikki rip off, saying Yume Nikki is better and that most of OMORI (HEADSPACE) has nothing to do with the lore, calling it a waste of time in other words. Basically hating the game entirely. I've even made a post on that guy here:

In one of their comments I didn't show in that post, they said that Undertale and Lisa are good games, have their own identity and so aren't an Earthbound ripoff. They said this when someone had pointed out that Undertale is a ripoff by their logic too. I don't why they had the need to mention Lisa out of nowhere but he did anyway.

And honestly, the way that OMORI hater was making Lisa sound like would make it seem as if it's even more engaging than Undertale. And when I see what I get to watch instead, I'm disappointed. Cuz bruh, it's gameplay seems nowhere more engaging than even OFF. Let me guess they were just the type of person who love those games where there's alot of bloodshed and swearing. Sure fine liking I don't care, but here's the thing to remember:

Violence and swearing ≠ Good game

My opinion on the game, though, can be a little messed because I didn't play the game, I just watched the gameplay. Idk, the game might be more engaging and fun than it looks but still, I'm there for the story and visuals more than the gameplay. If the visuals were better and moments in the story were presented in a more appealing manner and if the game was longer, it would've been far better, maybe even enough to beat OMORI.

And after watching Lisa The Painful gameplay, I have no wish of watching Lisa The Joyful at all. Which is a shame, cuz I eagerly wait for the next Deltarune parts when I'm finished with the latest ones.
