Today ended up working all day long, decided to work on some new art assets. We’ve decided to have 4 sectors, the first being outside the cave in a little forest-setting. So I decided to start working on that level.
I started by working on some ground tiles, doing the gradient texture method as usual. Using a gradient with 2 colors I made different tiles that would connect to form a path between grass and dirt.
Afterwards I adapted my cave wall assets to work with the ground tiles forming the exterior of the cave, and also a cliff-side that I figured I could use as a little lake with the water from the asset package I was using for the Wisp game.
Afterwards I started doing some vegetation, I did a leafy pinetree using the same texture I was using for the floor, and implemented it in the game using the tree shader from the Fantasy Asset package that I’m using in the Wisp game as well. Did the same for the Grass, and other small vegetation, using the grass shader form the fantasy asset package so it reacts to wind and has subtle nice animation.
Around 1am I started putting everything together in a test level, noticed that I needed to make a bunch of “decoration packages” for the level editor to be able to fill up the level properly and in a panick to just finish my task of the day and release the blog post just cheated and copied pasted a bunch of the assets around my level.
The level is looking pretty good, going to have to play around with its colors more and do some more decoration assets (and some new prefabs so I can place them easier within the level editor) but it’s a really good start.
Will leave you guys with this quick gif so you can get a feeling for it. Tomorrow I’ll probably work a lil bit more on it before moving on into more gameplay-oriented tasks.
I’ve been posting a daily devlog over at http://snddev.tumblr.com, if you want to see more about the game you can check the previous days devlogs over there :) I’ll start crossposting it here from now on.
