As I said above, there really wasn't anyone else I could've chosen for UCN. Aside from XOR (AKA Shadow Dee Dee) and Fredbear, UCN didn't really introduce any new characters. Nightmarionne was just the guy featured on the icon for the game, AND he was featured in the UCN mobile port trailer made by Clickteam (even if said trailer used an uncredited fan model), so I think I could get away with it. Fredbear would've just been a copy of Nightmare Fredbear (AND he's already a Freddy), and the same goes for XOR (just a dark version of Dee Dee).
While I've been a little bit more critical of UCN in the years since it was released, I really, REALLY loved playing it. To this day it's my second favorite FNAF game to revisit! it was like the perfect FNAF game gameplay-wise, with unique mechanics that not only are creative but also match the personality of each character! I mean, it was the game that made Toy Freddy a gamer, of COURSE I gotta give it props! The hype surrounding this game was unreal because I think when we first saw the announcement image we just thought it was gonna be a Custom Night for FFPS, nothing super crazy. But then when the first roster got revealed everyone just went INSANE. We were getting characters from previous games? JJ's a mainline character now? ADVENTURE ENDO-01 (this last one aged horribly LMAO)!? Oh yeah, those first few days of the roster slowly being revealed were incredible, and then more and more characters started to be added, and then we got that BIG picture of the final roster! Legit one of the coolest things to ever experience from this franchise. Not only that but then we just got thrown a curveball with Dee Dee being added and her EXTRA secret characters!? It was shock after shock after shock. Dude, the moment when Fredbear was revealed on ScottGames and the image only lasted for like half an hour was unironically one of THE top 10 craziest FNAF moments. I didn't even think it was real at first! While Fredbear being in UCN wouldn't actually age that well (the dude got reduced to a super hidden Easter egg that didn't even change anything), everything else though was just so awesome. The lore made for the game really did feel like a "book-end" of sorts to the original FNAF storyline. Afton died in the fire, he's being haunted by the spirits he killed, it's a perfect conclusion. If you were to only play FNAF 1 to UCN, I think you would be able to see just how poetic the game felt. Voice acting, Office skins, animated cutscenes (unfortunately drawn by awful people), and just the visual aspect of seeing your favorite FNAF characters in one game really hammered it home. Even if the series is still going, I can at least appreciate UCN as being the end of what I call the "Past" era of FNAF, with the "Future" era starting with Help Wanted. Thank you for reading this, can't believe I'm almost done with this project soon!
