Party Room 8 [Written Devlog] (06/13/22)


Hey there! Welcome to the first fully written dev update for Party Room 8!

To start off, work has been going swimmingly! 3/5 of the alpha Animatronics' specials have been fully programmed, and all Classic Animatronic repaints have been completed! As well as 12 tracks in total of the Original Soundtrack.

(There are currently 8 tracks listenable on the game-page)

The game's first Performance Test just dropped here on GameJolt, with some pretty nice results! People have been getting an average of at least 60FPS on the highest settings, and up to 100FPS on the lowest. These are wonderful results, to mention that each Animatronic has at least 3 material channels (Suit Head, Suit Body and Endo)- which are all currently 4K resolution.

Next, progress on all 5 alpha characters specials has been speeding by. As mentioned above: 3/5 of Animatronic abilities have been finalized, leaving only Classic Freddy and Chica's to be coded.

(Take a look at Balloon Boy's ability below, please excuse the temporary model used for the taser-gun.)

Our programmer has been hard at work at completing the 'Character Select' and it should be fully functional by the end of the upcoming week (lighting/scene may be adjusted).

But, enough about the Animatronics. Let's give our future Survivor mains some love! Charlie (Party Room 8's very first survivor) has been imported into the Unreal Engine! This means that we were/are able to experiment with how Animatronics and Survivors interact with each other (tasing, stuffing, injuring), as well as how Survivors move in general (speed, FOV, animation blending).

(Survivors currently use the Unreal Engine 'mannequin' animation set, but will switch to completely original animations before initial alpha release.)

Work has also been done on other movement 'states' (Crouching, etc), as well Animatronic attacking/picking up and how that affects Survivors, but animations are currently lacking/missing in those areas.


Maps and environment have been a heavily thought on topic for our team. Several concepts have been roughly spoken about but we have not yet decided on just one for the alpha. This is a topic we hope to get back to you on soon!

Sometimes the suction cup get sticky. Small animation I made in Blender after doing my tutorial on picking up/dropping objects in animations. Crate model by jQueary (https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/game-ready-sci-fi-crate-d98deca6…).

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.

In order to unlock the power of a Shrine, you must collect 3 'Souls' from your dead corpses! (the floating blue orbs)
