MARIO’s MYSTERY MEAT
Mario’s Mystery Meat was a hack of super mario world made by Eminus. It was created for the streamer “Vinesauce” as an experience based off of Vinny’s funniest and most well known moments on stream.
Mario’s Mystery Meat is the biggest inspiration for Pickle Jar. The level design in mystery meat has incredible variety and atmosphere as you play the game and provides a unique and fun experience to anyone, fan of Vinesauce or not. “Sponge” is a character created by Vinny himself, but the idea of just recoloring and slightly changing the design of the games main character is what inspired “Help”, as my friends and I found it funny.

DELTARUNE: RIBBIT
RIBBIT is a mod for Deltarune created by BeholdMaxine. It tells the story of a young frog (Kris) navigating a world full of ghosts. The mod very clearly draws inspiration from other RPGs such as OFF and completely changes the world of Deltarune to have this weird, eerie yet comedic at times tone. The music choices are another thing that make this mod so great. The atmosphere of the areas from chapter 1 completely change based off of the songs playing. RIBBIT conveys its tone fantastically and is a must play id you haven’t already.
RIBBIT made me want to make Pickle Jar. The way it is able to contain its jokes while also sometimes conveying serious tones and moments was one of my favorite parts about it. After playing RIBBIT, I really feel like that sharp tonal shift between humor and seriousness is a must have in games like these.

DELIVER US: BOOK OF SHADOWS
Deliver Us is a Spongebob YTP made by AwfulFawful. It contains many strange and abstract images and a fantastic soundtrack. The YTP itself is very abstract and hard to discern any meaning from it, but for those that want a story there is one to piece together.
I love this method of story telling. Create a puzzle for the reader, and let them piece it together themself. I feel in a game like Pickle Jar, for a story to work it has to be optional for the player. A good shitpost game is one you can experience and enjoy, and then think back on later.
TTT_Sabiru
TTT_Sabiru is a Garry’s Mod ‘Trouble in Terrorist Town” map, however it is possible to play it in sandbox mode. Sabiru is a little more mature of a topic. If you are young I really wouldn’t recommend playing it or reading into it, as it isn’t an enjoyable experience if you can’t understand the topics in the map. The map itself is very interesting to explore and has tons of secrets to see.
Sabiru is where I draw inspiration for portraying darker messages and tones while keeping it in an abstract style. Never tell the player something that would be more engaging for the player to figure out themselves. I explored this map with a few friends and we ‘beat’ it together. Ultimately, we just felt creeped out and uncomfortable after playing it. But I still feel like the tone it has is perfect if you want to creep out a player.

Thank you for taking the time to read through. I recommend experiencing those blind if you have not heard of / seen before, as its best when you do not know what is going to happen next.
I don’t know how much longer Pickle Jar is going to take, or if I’ll even be able to fit all 4 chapters into a fucking scratch game.
If I end up wanting to finish the game beyond area 2, I’ll probably split the projects in 2. As the save data will carry over from the first project to the second one.
Right now, I’d love to keep working on Pickle Jar until all of the chapters are finished. But I have other things to work on after area 2, and I don’t know if I’d want to keep working on it when I am done with those other things.
Thanks again for reading.
