Are we going to continue this game?
I am positive that I/we will be adding to and polishing the jam version up a fair amount. And I’d expect another new build that at least fixes some easier things to fix in the near future with some amount of added polish..(basically things i can fix as a non-programmer but yes with some amount of programmy fixes.. like being able to put the octahedron object down on the pedestal at the final ruin and then getting locked out of the wind/earth ruin..oops!) but as far as a more super solid polished version of the jam game it will be a bit longer of a wait as I’d like to integrate a new player character controller, maybe add in options to invert mouse as well as a mouse sensitivity options in menu and a lot more.. especially on the level design, worldspace , art and story side of stuff.. but again not a programmer so I am not exactly sure I can figure that more programmy stuff out.. or improve such issues like the seemingly random crashes, mouse look issues, cursor issues etc.. without breaking everything worse.. haha..
What about a full game?
I am/we are.. researching/thinking/planning/toying with the idea about turning it into a full game.. but since I am not a programmer & sorta feel I just barely got this thing working in the role of “programmer” for the jam version.. (which was a good experience for me to see I am capable of more than i realized) but as far as keeping track of and “programming” it further or making it more complicated I am not really sure how realistic it is for me in that role moving past a more polished jam version… If we had a dedicated & trustworthy programmer that knew what they were doing I’d still be able to contribute a lot to scripting level design stuff and smaller puzzle & misc scripting type stuff like i did for the jam version.. Honestly just releasing the jam version I ran into a lot of build issues even on the same operating system (windows) that I am still unsure of what’s causing some if not most of these issues. I can only imagine trying to expand the game more without first fixing these types of issues would mean that the game would double, triple, quadruple or maybe even worse in its problems/issues! Then if you add in multiple operating systems in there.. ohhh boy! As an artist its all pretty beyond me to track down and fix even simple things that’s for sure!. With all that said.. I didn’t let my non-existent skills as a “programmer” get in the way of making the jam version and did manage to pull something pretty interesting off with the help of such an awesome team! So.. who knows?! I feel this game has something going for it & seems a lot of people enjoyed it and checked it out.. which means I am definitely going to be working on it more and seems like the team is up for it as well! We’d like to find a programmer to help out, but I am broke and don’t have money to pay someone right now.. so.. that sort of leaves things dead in the water to an extent of making a full game out of it.. but maybe not entirely… Anyways may be too soon to bring a programmer on anyways.. but uhh.. if you are a programmer and are possibly interested feel free to shoot me a message.. What are you doing now? Other than typing lots of stuff no one will read?
Right now I am in prototyping mode now trying to see what other puzzle types I can pull off on my own.. hopefully some that are more complicated.. Although I had trouble even with the music puzzle (which is fairly simple) and I am still unsure if its even really working correctly.. As well as I am saving part of my next paycheck to buy UFPS (or waiting for another sale) to integrate it with Adventure Creator to hopefully fix some of the player controller issues… . will it work? I don’t know.. will it make things worse? maybe! I am also thinking of ways to expand the game, its world and the story especially if we did have a programmer or if i could manage to figure out more stuff on my own. Heck… I’d even maybe like to add in a simple melee system and some enemies!? Would probably still be more puzzle focused type of game.. but.. yup! There’s some other possibilities of what could be done with this beyond just puzzles and its fun to think about anyways..
If you enjoyed reading this nonsense (you odd duck) check out my patreon as I wrote up a bit more on the artistic/creative side of the game and its influences and how I arrived at some of the ideas for the jam game.
