Progress Report - September 2018

Howdy!
Jeez, it’s been a while since we’ve made one of these, huh?

First and foremost, we want to apologize for the inactivity and lack of communication on our part—specifically, the GameJolt. We’ve given updates on our Tumblr and Discord (would recommend checking those out for more frequent updates), though we’ve really neglected this page. Over the past few months, development slowed down quite a bit due to a variety of reasons. Namely, a general lack of motivation, as well as general disorganization and miscommunication amongst team members. Fortunately, however, development has really been picking up the pace lately, and we’ve been getting a lot of stuff done!
Now, in addition to this, you may have noticed that we’ve currently disabled the comments on the GameJolt. The main reason for this is because we just became stressed and tired from an influx of comments complaining about how long the demo has been taking, or just insulting us. While we feel bad about this—we’re certainly frustrated with how it’s been taking 2 years for the demo to be released—it’s still important for people to keep in mind that we’re all young adults with busy lives. We have our own obligations to uphold, whether it be to family, friends, work, academics, or our own self-care. We take the time out of our day to work on TS!Underswap because it’s something we enjoy doing, and because we want our following to enjoy an experience different from Undertale. And even then, we’ve encountered a lot of obstacles and setbacks, which we’ve talked about in the past; such as drama and sabotage. But at the end of the day, we’re incredibly devoted to doing what we love, and can promise that the demo, as well as the full game, will be out one day.

Secondly: applications! We’ve had people wondering if applications are still open. Unfortunately, we don’t plan on accepting any applications for the moment—when they were first opened, we received a great amount of joke submissions, and so we ended up not accepting many. We currently have enough people on the team to get the job done, but expect applications to return some time in the future if need be. Apologies for this!

Now what you’ve all been waiting for: content! The reason we having been showing off too much is because we want to keep a lot of things as a surprise for when the demo comes out, rather than spoiling everything we have planned. You may have seen that we updated the preview images to show off the changes we’ve made, and removed some outdated images that we currently don’t have public replacements for. To start us off, here’s a quick rundown of the current sprites/designs for our Ruined Home cast:

Temmie! Nothing much has changed aside from some graphical adjustments/improvements. Though now, they have their own little Tem Shop! Be careful when buying from here, though, even if those construction paper flakes look… tasty?

Asgore, the sage of Ruined Home. As we’ve shown off on our Tumblr, his design has changed ever so slightly. Rather than a bald spot on the top of his head, this old boss monster sports a ponytail! He also wears a turtleneck sweater to keep him nice and comfy.

“Make the training dummy angry,” they said. “It’ll be fun,” they said. And you know what? They were right. We have a load of shenanigans planned for Mad Dummy, whose dialogue and battles sprites have received an upgrade to be consistent with the overworld sprites. And 15.5% more anger!

The up-and-coming star of Ruined Home, the fabulous Mettacrit! Again, we’ve shown him off on the Tumblr before, but his design has certainly changed considerably from what it used to be. Sporting a bow and magical gloves, this glimmering ghoul has the confidence to fulfill his dream of being a beloved performer!

Alrighty! Now that we’ve gotten the familiar faces out of the way, here are some new challengers we’ve thrown into the mix!

Moldrick, Aaxel, and Norman! Otherwise known as… The Greasers! These monsters aren’t afraid to use force to get what they want, even if it means bullying those weaker than them. Don’t mind the fact that Aaxel is the only one sporting the “greaser” archetype—these three troublemakers frequent one of the many locations of the greasiest establishment in the underground: Grillby’s Backyard Barbecue! (Notice: the battle sprites for Aaxel and Norman are subject to change.)

Speaking of fast food and unhappiness, bet you weren’t expecting this fella! Contractually obligated to say his name is “Bugerpant” because of a mix-up, this guy serves as the delivery boy for Grillby’s Backyard Barbecue! And when we say the delivery boy, we mean he’s the ONLY delivery boy. For the entire Underground. Yeah.

Now, I know we’ve mentioned Grillby’s twice already. Our approach to the Grillby/Muffet swap is different than what you might think:

Grillby’s Backyard Barbecue is a chain of retro-themed, fast food diners across the Underground! Wherever you might find yourself, you can be sure there’s a Grillby’s nearby to treat you to delicious food made with love, and plenty of preservatives!

We haven’t been wanting to show off too much from locations other than Ruined Home, but here’s some (concept) sneak previews of Starlight Isles!

And that’s all she wrote, folks! Or, rather, all we wrote. We wanted to give another quick thank you to everyone who’s stuck around with us for two years, despite how long that is. Today commemorates UNDERTALE’s third anniversary, and we wanted to give everyone something special for it. What you’ve seen here isn’t the end of content we’d like to preview, however. Soon, we plan to release a special animation to celebrate having over 22K Followers, as well as a potential developer stream where you can ask whatever questions you’d like, and talk with the developers!

Before we go, however, I wanted to say something quickly. Recently, Team Switched has seen an exchange in power—Granpris, the former leader, has decided to step down due to a lack of motivation, and wanting to pursue her own original projects. We’d highly recommend checking out her content, and following what she has to offer.

Have a nice day, and remember to check out our Discord and Tumblr for more consistent updates, as well as a variety of shenanigans.
