Hello! It's been a while, hasn't it? Did ya miss me?
Probably not..
Anyways, I'm back with another Proposal article so I can show off some ideas I have. Today's focus is on new game mechanics!
Kirby's Dream Course is certainly fun. Very hard.. but fun.
However, I could add new mechanics to make sure that the game stays 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝓈𝒽.
Firstly, the Elevator. This would be a simple platform that would go up and down a certain amount at different intervals.
You don't get locked down onto the platform, so there's still a chance you'll fall off of it and want to scream.
Next, the Animal ability. This power allows you to go underground and move around for 5 seconds. While this may sound similar to the UFO, there will be changes to make them different:
A hole is left wherever you started and stopped digging, which if the player falls in, they lose a turn.
Wherever you stop, you pop back up, and if you're right below a enemy or player, you'll knock them out.
Any holes are left there for the next turn. They then disappear.
Adding more abilities in general will add more variety to the gameplay.
Next up, I wanted to talk about World Effects. These are specials effects that are applied globally to a level to change how the game plays. There are three main effects:
- Gravity: Changes how fast the player is pulled down, with a value of 0 to 10.0. The lower the value, the slower the player's fall is.
- Fog: Increases how much fog covers the screen, making it harder to see. The value ranges from 0 to 5.0. The higher the value, the more fog that covers the screen.
- Light: Similar to Fog, this changes the amount of light in the level, except instead of surrounding the player, the lower the value is, the darker the entire screen gets. The value ranges from 0 to 5.0.
And finally, Hole Types. These change how the Level Hole acts.
The Vacuum type will have a small amount of suction around the hole the pull players and objects closer. The strength of it can be changed.
The Broken type will only be used for single-player. These holes are shattered, and are spread across the board. Instead of killing all the enemies, you have to collect all the pieces of the Broken Hole in order to complete the level.
The Teleporting type will move to a random spot on the map if a player triggers a button. Great for use in multiplayer to move the hole away from your enemy friend.
..And that's it! This post took me a while, but I hope to hear what you think of these concepts!
