Rant: NW.js vs. macOS

Shout out to NW.js version 0.40.1 for making Crucible SO much easier to release on Mac than Ignition ever was.

On Ignition, I had to do all this stupid crap on my Mac virtual machine, and copy a specific set of resources from my one version of the game that actually ran into each subsequent release. Now all I have to do is stick in the app icon and the game just works on mac!

All this is just to say that the release process for my games is not an easy task, and it makes me miss the gold old days when Ignition was just going to be a browser-based game and I just had to upload each update to my website over FTP.

Ah, well. At least things are a little better now with the sequel.

Rant over.

I updated the character select screen again!

I ditched the blurred overlay background for a stylish color-changing gradient, and added a spotlight to justify the players' shadows.

I also combined player & difficulty onto 1 screen for efficiency.

Behold, your reward for beating boss rush - this sick-as-heck 3D cutscene I threw together over the weekend!

Yeah, I know the game is mostly 2D, but I really felt like going way over the top with this game mode. I hope it paid off.

More underwater friends :)

I got a little creative block working on the lake level, so I skipped ahead for a bit.

This is the Boss Rush arena event! You fight many/all bosses back-to-back here.

I decided to go crazy with 3D effects here, since it happens in a virtual reality room.

Scenic subterranean lake ambiance.

It seems so peaceful... for now.

Sure has been a while since I posted something new, huh? Well, that's because I've been working on something big (that, and bugfixing).

Here's a little preview of that something!

Presented without comment.

Some new background elements in Chapter 4 (N). The sky's a little less barren now that there are more floating rocks off in the background.

These also use 3D depth for accurate scaling, parallax scrolling, and distance fog.

Oodles of options!

Accessibility aids aplenty!

I added some more settings lately to toggle distorted graphics, fine-tune the audio mixing, and other stuff. Hopefully this should make the game accessible to more kinds of players.

I thought the escape sequence in Chapter 2 didn't have enough urgency to it, so I spiced it up a little.

I also wrote a new song to go with it!

Keep an eye out for this in the next update, coming... whenever I feel like it.
