I don't usually make these kinda posts because of too much political stuff and my own lack of care for the topics, but I just want to lash out a little bit.
Russia is well known as a big political figure, and is currently in war with Ukraine, which may also be a known fact. When it all started, back in 2021, it was obvious that a shit storm was only incoming. Many companies, big and small, left the country and willingly lost tons of cash they were getting, and I can kind of understand them - the full image of the war is blurry and it's getting harder by the day to point fingers... But I was wondering why did social media count as part of this? And I don't mean that YouTube, Instagram and other platforms left willingly, they stood strong and mighty. So what happened? That's right, they were shot from the back by my country.
Their reasoning for the blockage was that these SPECIFIC platforms contain information that goes against the law of Russia - LGBT, terroristic and obviously racist allegations and so on. Of course I don't approve of the latter, I'm not sure what unconventional orientations did to them, but I guess they be them. And now, out of the blue, Discord gets redacted. Let's look at their reasoning.
From the latest information, I can note that Discord is, for your and my and their surprise, is comfortable for plannings of terroristic actions in the borders of my country. No shit Sherlock, why not block all messengers we have then! Block Telegram, Viber, WhatsApp, Reddit even. Block regular built-in phone messengers too! And when that's done, let's block reality so people can't discuss attacking the country from within when they meet personally. I can't understand this flimsy logic... Discord is shaped by people. The servers are made by people. The administration is not supposed to control them. Just like in checkrooms - the administration of the building is not responsible for the items getting lost that are left in said checkrooms.
My little post may not do much of an impact... It's just a yell of desperation into the void that may or may not be heard. All I can do is download more VPNs and pray for those that may decease in the world we have. I will hope that it'll all somehow settle down... But I also hope that people might throw their pink glasses and realize that something needs to be done.
