Unarguably, all the goals here are righteous; but not much beyond that.
Kids' safety online
Illegal content distribution
Internet-enabled organized crime
No need to discuss that these are real, global-scale problems that seriously need to be addressed, but that's not my concern here.
What's happening recently is a little demonstration of power of pressure from government bodies and companies; their ways and means to control our interaction with digital media and the flow of information, which are already in place, and what's to come in the future.
Meanwhile, observing European Union's initiative - High-Level Experts Group with crackdown on encryption of devices and communications and data retention in the name of law enforcement.
They do achieve the goal, but harming everyone's fundamental rights in the process.
Frankly, I see a trend of getting closer to an authoritarian regime under this common banner of "protection": censorship, surveillance and room for power abuse, and it's beyond scary.
