Release 1.0.0 - General notes

Hey guys!

Thank you for checking out Isaac’s Adventure! This RPG game was a tribute/semi-remake to The Binding of Isaac, a cool rougelike indie game in the vein of The Legend of Zelda. (Even the names are similar) That game was made by Nicalis, so I highly suggest that you support them by buying the real Binding of Isaac.

As for the ‘Why?’ and ‘How?’, I will explain all in this post. If you don’t like lengthy text articles, then I’d say this one is not for you.

First off - the state of SFS 5. I’ve put that on hold as I’ve been stuck for ideas as of late. Often with games I have a clear depiction of how it starts and ends, but I don’t have a clue about what to do inbetween. There is also the limitation of the software; I don’t know if anyone’s noticed yet or if I told anyone, but so far all my RPG games have been made in the lite version of RPG Maker VX Ace, which is a free alternative with less functionality. I plan on getting the full version, but I don’t know how I can buy it - I live in England where our currency units don’t match the american units the page asks for, and the exchange rate changes almost every day.

So in the meantime, I started playing The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth on my Wii U and thought, “This game has a lot of RPG elements - what if it were made into an actual RPG?”. That’s what sparked the development of this game, with the functionality of pickups, items and the like translated to RPG Maker and a new storyline to boot. It’s quite experimental in that sense, as well as unorthadox for me since it’s my first game release on Gamejolt that isn’t based on FNAF.

I also tested some skills I’d applied on smaller Scratch projects on a full game. The music was composed in Deflemask using the arcade YM2151 SEGA PCM chip and the vector graphics were drawn in Inkscape. This game has been quite the learning experience for me, so I oblige you to rate this game and comment with your feedback. At the very least, I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I did making it.

And what’s that thing that Scatterbrain always makes without knowing whether he needs to? Oh yes, sequels! I’ve already planned ahead for a sequel should I complete it’s development. I can’t tell you much, but I will tell you that it involves a recurring character in my SFS games finally taking centre stage as she investigates the aftermath of this game’s events. But soon, she becomes much more involved in proceedings than she would’ve thought…

Does that sound appealing to you? Let me know in the comments below!

tl;dr comment, comment, comment. If nothing else, do that, and as always, thank you for playing.
~Scatterbrain

“Why do you always sign the posts we clearly know you made?”
~Shadow Freddy, who is still waiting on his next outing.
