Saving the Person Update: The little things

Hi, everyone! Been a while, huh?

So, been plenty going on my life as of late. Mostly relating to University starting back up and having to devote plenty of time to that. I've been working on a Roguelike RPG in C#, it's really cool, will probably show it off sometime. Anyhow, as you can imagine, that hasn't left much time devoted to Saving the Person. In fact, more time has been spent during the last 3 months working on Five Nights at Nutty's: Reimagined than StP. For anyone wondering about that game, by the way, we're still not ready to give any big updates on it just yet, just that...again, some pretty cool stuff is happening. It's looking good, quite hopeful for the final game.

BUT, of course, that doesn't mean StP has been out of the picture completely! Quite the contrary, I've still been getting plenty done! Not as much as I would've hoped, but I don't think 7 new fully animated scenes and a WIP title screen are anything to sneeze at, which pushes the game's animation to 25% complete! ...even though most of those scenes are the shorter and less intense ones but, trying to look on the bright side here. Plus I made some hefty updates to the current look of the game, as you may be able to tell from the new thumbnail!

Most notably is some more detailed backgrounds. I believe I've said before that backgrounds aren't really my forte, but nonetheless I figured it'd be good to try and add some extra detail to them, mostly in texturing for the walls and floor. Props are still proving to be a bit of a weak point for me. T'ah well. And it isn't much, but I also gave the characters a bit of shading!

Again, isn't much, especially since the only thing it actually effects is their heads, and no I'm not putting it onto the backgrounds because that's plenty too much work for me and I don't feel like it, but it helps to give the world that extra bit of depth that makes the game look much nicer to me! You'd be surprised what a few extra lines in the backgrounds or a small splash of colour at the bottom of heads will do for a game visually. Like the title says, it's the little things.

I suppose another thing to talk about is the death of Flash. Since the previous update, it's been put into effect, though unfortunately more severely than I would've liked. The plugin got shut down entirely, even if you managed to still have it installed on your browser. Not even the Newgrounds Player was safe from the wrath of the global block. Right now though, I still don't think it's too big a problem. Tom Fulp has said he'll be working on getting the Newgrounds Player to automatically perform a workaround to allow Flash to function when installed (though maybe he's already done that idk), and I found out that this "Supernova Plugin" is a thing that exists, which I think also does a workaround of it's own? Idk, don't know if it'll work with Saving the Person, but hey, it's a possible option, I suppose. Beyond that making a .exe file continues to be an option and Ruffle is a no-go due to me using AS3, but I think for now I'll just continue at it and decide my options near the end. All I know is the game is definitely releasing on Newgrounds, then MIGHT release on GameJolt depending on what my options are. It's just easier to market the game here, shut up.

Other than that, though, I'm afraid to say there isn't really much new to say on the game. I guess that even the pessimistic Fall 2021 release date is starting to look a bit unlikely, given how progress has been since the teaser trailer? I dunno, that might partially be due to University. It ends right at the beginning of May, so that might be able to boost me back into speedy mode once it's done with. Well, until then, have yourself a small look at a new scene! Hopefully I'll have more to share in due time, but until then, see ya again soon!
