Hello everyone! In this post we want to present you this project for the first time and explain what it is about, showing you some progress too. Let's start!
WHAT IS SHIFTBOUND?
ShiftBound is an UNDERTALE Role-Swap AU and Fan-Game that reimagines the lore and characters from the original game, inspired by the roles of the AU StoryShift by Voltrathelively.
Even though we use the main shifts from StoryShift, we don’t consider our AU a take. We aim to create a fresh and original game experience, with a story that follows a different path from Undertale, featuring original events, new mechanics, and a few new characters.
In addition to the StoryShift swaps, we’ll swap some other roles to be as creative as possible, while doing our best to respect the canonical personalities of the characters, so this won’t just be a reskin.
This project is made for those who have always dreamed of a StoryShift-like fangame, offering something new and original.
Now, let’s move on to the designs and sprites!
NAPSTABLOOK:

Napstablook takes the role of Asriel and Flowey, but to make this swap make sense, we decided to keep him as a ghost. We don’t want to spoil the direction we’re taking with his character, but we’ll make sure his role feels coherent with his original personality.
PAPYRUS:

Papyrus takes the role of Toriel and becomes the character who guides the player through the first area of the game, which replaces the Ruins.
Instead of copying Toriel’s behavior, Papyrus approaches this role in his own way. He tries to act strict and authoritative, believing that this is what he is supposed to do, but he clearly struggles with it.
CHARA AND ASRIEL:

Chara takes the role of Sans, while Asriel takes the role of Papyrus.
At the moment, we are focusing on writing the first area of the game, and these two won't show until the second one, but we already made their designs and sprites.
We’ll make sure Chara’s personality works well, and handle the fact that there are two humans in the Underground in a way that makes sense for the story.
This is all for the sprites, so let's move into the coding part!
PROGRAMMING:
We are making the Fan-Game in GameMaker, the same program used to make Undertale.
We’re starting by building the engine for the Overworld, including movement and the save system. Here’s a short video showing the engine in action.
NOTE: The engine is still heavily unfinished and buggy, and the rooms are just placeholders, but we wanted to share a sneak peek with you anyway!
As you can see, the Saving system works. Once we will fix and complete the Overworld section, we will start working on the Battle System.
In the video, you can also see the sprites for our main character!
HELP WANTED
We really want to make a fangame that’s fun, polished, and full of care.
Currently, we are only two working at this project, but we really want to make this a complete playable game, and for that we could really use some help.
We’re looking for :
Spriters (Overworld, Rooms and Battle Sprites)
Coders

Anyone interested in helping can contact us!
Thanks for your attention!
We’ll share updates whenever there is something new to see , and we are working really hard to make this fangame something special
See you soon!
