Skin Em and Cook Em! (But you can't Eat Em.... yet!)

5d0b52e02377a.png

Crafting screen featuring rabbit skinning and cooking of meat

Changes

  • Craftable Item: Knife

  • Dead rabbits + Knife -> Raw Meat + Rabbit Pelt

  • Raw Meat + Fire -> Cooked Meat

  • Improved controls:

    • On inventory screen, CTRL + arrow drops/takes one item, SHIFT + arrow drops/takes half of the pile

Obvious Needs

  • A “drop one” button from the main screen. Having to go into inventory to drop traps is obnoxious. (I also like to drop logs/stones to find my way back to my camp)

Rabbit Processing

The resource progression tree starts to get more complex.

  1. Gather wood

  2. Gather flint

  3. Craft axe

  4. Craft knife

  5. Craft fire

  6. Craft trap

  7. Place trap

  8. Gather dead rabbit

  9. Craft raw meat and pelt

  10. Craft cooked meat

Why No Eating Rabbit?

Currently, you can eat berries for energy, and so it would have been a simple matter to make meat edible and give energy.

But I think I want to separate out energy and health. Proteins relate to health, carbs relate to energy.

So far, in the game, there is no concept of health, so I need to make that part before eating meat will matter.

I also need to come up with something to do with the rabbit pelts.

The other big concept that I may decide to work on is the barter system. It really all depends on what feature I find more interesting to work on.

But all in all, this here is the game I always wanted to work on. Even thirty years ago when it would never have been possible technically to do.

Back in my art school days I used to ride the 710 COPSA line from Parque Del Plata to Montevideo almost everyday. This is the Marcopolo Viaggio G4 Mercedes Benz model from the late 80s, one of the older bus models that was running on the line.

Some time ago, we posted a screenshot of the Mexico level. A curiosity about it is that, like some other scenarios of the game, it was inspired by a real landscape, The Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla. It is one of the natural wonders of the country!
