Speculation: Shadow Freddy's role will be different in 'POPGOES Evergreen' compared to the original 'POPGOES' games. (This post is fairly long, so be prepared.)

This is something that I've thought about for a bit now, and I decided I'd shared my thoughts about it. Obviously, I could be wrong about this. This is all just speculation after all. Anyway, without further ado, let's begin.

For those who don't know, Shadow Freddy's role in the original 'POPGOES' games was rather unique. They were a 'rumour' that revolved around the murders Purple Guy committed. People said that a shadow version of Freddy aided Purple Guy in his murders. This in turn would cause a 'Freddy's' location to become a 'Shadow Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria' after a murder was done.

Shadow Freddy's role overall in the original 'POPGOES' lore was quite small, with them more representing something in the lore, much like RWQ/Shadow Bonnie. And this could be the case still in 'POPGOES Evergreen'. But, Kane mentioned there would be "retcons" in the reboot. And personally, I think Shadow Freddy could be one of them.

Of course, there's no evidence really to prove this, it's more just a hunch or hope of mine. Although, Kane himself confirmed that the 'Five Nights at Candy's' series and 'POPGOES Evergreen' are set in the same universe, making them canon to one another. Now, what does this have anything to do with proving the possibility of Shadow Freddy's role being changed? Well, because of Shadow Candy/Cat and Shadow Rat.

In the 'Five Nights at Candy's' series, there are two shadow characters, Shadow Candy and Shadow Rat. Emil, the creator of the series, commented on a post on the FNaF sub-reddit a few years back. Here's the link to said post:

As Emil says in his comment, all the stuff answered in the post are his responses to the questions. One such question being about the shadows and who/what they are. Before we get into that though, let's bring up The Cat and The Rat real quick.

The Rat and The Cat are possessed by the actors who died in them at the theater, due to the puppeteer killing them. Their spirits went on to possess those suits they died in, which then went on to be turned into the animatronics that we would see in the first and second games of the series. Shadow Candy and Shadow Rat, as stated in the post, are Rat and Cat when they aren't present. For example, since The Cat isn't located at 'Candy's Burgers & Fries', Shadow Candy appears there instead. Shadow Rat does not because The Rat is there himself. Shadow Rat appears in a secret mini-game in the third game (might be hard to tell at first, but their sprite is very dark compared to The Cat, and also the fact they're at 'Candy's' at this point), where them and The Cat capture and kill the twins, who go on to possess Candy and Cindy. In other words, Shadow Candy and Shadow Rat are the actors spirits when they don't have their animatronics around to possess them.

Great, we now know all about Shadow Candy and Shadow Rat. How does this relate to Shadow Freddy's role change? As I mentioned, 'Five Nights at Candy's' and 'POPGOES Evergreen' are in the same universe. That means there are three shadow characters overall (RWQ/Shadow Bonnie isn't really a shadow in the 'POPGOES' lore). With them all sharing the same prefix, it would make sense that they would all be similar to one another. That isn't the case when the original 'POPGOES' games are brought in, as we know that Shadow Freddy in the original lore is just a rumour to represent Purple Guy's murders. So, to make them all be similar to one another and have a connection, something needs to change, that being Shadow Freddy.

And there we go. That's my long speculation of Shadow Freddy's role in the story possibly being changed for 'POPGOES Evergreen'. Like I said, I could be entirely wrong and Shadow Freddy may stay the same. Or they might not even make an appearance in the game. But, I think that they could maybe shed light on the spring lock incident or something.

TL;DR: Because 'Five Nights at Candy's' and 'POPGOES Evergreen' are in the same universe, it would make sense that all three of the shadows in the games would be similar to one another, that being spirits of people who died, specifically in mascot suits.

I know it was probably created to make the outside not so barren, but I do wonder what the building across the street could be.

The final badge is mine! Spent nearly $10 getting it, but I did it.

Now I just need to get lucky and get the foil cards via the booster packs. (Assuming they can appear in those)

I somehow got lucky enough to encounter each "Gilded" character in the forests, save for the Dead forest.

Now if only I could get this lucky with getting the damn foil cards.

The arcade cabinets we've seen for the reboot are for all the characters in the building, not just Popgoes. The other three arcades are named; 'Stone's Big Adventure', 'Blake's Repair Shop', and while it's hard to make out fully, 'Squirrel Skaters!'.
