So I started with the Rolling Ball project in Unreal Engine 4 Blueprints, then I changed the input and camera to 2d and made a test level, it didn’t take to long to get it to work and look the way I wanted, then I just worked on the UI, the HUD, menus and flash screens, I used widgets for all the GUI, it took me a bit to get everything communicating, mostly thanks to good answers from other indie devs, I was pointed in the way of a game instance whick stores all your global variables. I did most of the artwork in paint.NET and used unreal primatives. my map looked dark, so I was going to add more light, but then I thought, instead of just making everything brighter, I should make the lights part of the game, so I decided to add wall torches, I got a sprite sheet from opengameart.org then I made it into an animated sprite and attached a light source to it, I might make it dynamically change with the flicker of the sprite, but not sure yet. With all that out of the way I mostly just have to make my levels.
