the "small" project I said I was working on

I made this tiny book out of mostly recycled materials. I used some blue faux leather then tried to paint a stencil on the front which turned out... bad. So I spread the paint out and painted the whole thing silver which I also didn’t like so I brushed on some brown paint. I then discovered the joys of using cheap acrylics; the wet paint let me wipe off some of the dried silver paint. So I ended up with this strange silver brown weathering effect which I think I like?

This is the 5th or 6th book I’ve made but my first attempt at a “medieval” style of bookbinding. I made a few mistakes because I like to fly by the seat of my pants and not you know, measure things. I also have an aversion to following tutorials of any kind.

My favourite part of creating this book was sewing the text block and head/end bands. My least favourite part was gluing the cover on because I seem to always get glue all over my hands and desk and clothes. But it was immensely satisfyingly to see the "leather" form around the corded spine.

Hoping to get my skates today! I’ve been a little obsessed so I tried to stave off my tendency to be impatient by creating this cross-stitch!

Update: Skates are here. I definitely didn't fall on my butt almost immediately.

It's been a minute, I got covid and was out of commission. 😷

Thank you to everyone that sent me well-wishes! I'm feeling much better now 😀 so back to our regularly scheduled program!

I was mad that they made Alastor's 2nd form so lame, so here is my art of scary alastor, straight from the fairytales, not just with some goofy ahh tentacles
