The Bottomless Shaft incident is the most known incident in Epsilon's history, when the 10 year old Layla Geneviève fell down the 5860m deep elevator shaft to the abandoned Delta Complex after the support rods holding the ground above it broke due to low maintenance and the strong vibration of the trains passing by.
-On the day of 15th of May 2018 at 12;45 AM, the Metro Class 0086 arrives at the "Marie Curie" station in Sector 2. The train was carrying roughly 130 passengers including Layla which was visiting her sister at the time.
-Shortly after, as the train was preparing to departure, the platform collapsed dragging Layla into the elevator shaft and damaging the tracks and the train.
-At 12;50 AM, Code Red was activated in Sector 2
-12;51 to 13;06: It took 15 min for Layla to get to reach the bottom of the shaft. At 3600m she passed out due to the high G-Forces and after reaching the bottom, she remained unconscious for almost half an hour. Her luck was that the bottom of the shaft was covered in High Impact Protection Gel(HIPG) that absorbed her fall.
-13;06 to 13;36: The paramedics and the CCU arrive at the scene of the incident. The zone was secured, the rubbled was removed and the 4 injured were treated, while the administrator was making its way to the site.
-13;36: Layla wakes up with dizziness and a temporary memory loss. She was unable to recall the events of what had happend before she reached the bottom for approx. 10 min.
After recovery, she attempted to contact the facility's emergency network but her devices lost signal.
-13;46: The administrator arrives at the scene and begins to make plans for the rescue operation of Layla, but there's little hope that survived the fall.
-13;47: Layla begins making her way to the first level of offices in the Delta Complex. By using the wore out maps she guides her way to the offices.
-14;00: The Rescue operation team consisting of Edwin, Sophie, Kaito, Ronja and two ACU soldiers are lowered down into shaft, initiating the operation.
-14;30: After a 30 min of walking through the abandoned complex, Layla arrives at the abandoned metro station. She goes into the control room of the metro network, where she find a radio and begins contacting the emergency service.
-14;35: While the rescue team was investigating the entrance era of the elevator shaft, one of the ACU soldier that was carrying a radio receives a signal.
The signal recorded the following:
Layla: "Radio check, Radio check"
ACU soldier: "10_2, identify yourself, over"
Layla: "Im Layla Geneviève, over"
ACU soldier: "Say again, over"
Layla: "I repeat, Im Layla Geneviève, over"
ACU soldier: "10_4, what is your 20? Over"
Layla: "Im at the control room of the abandoned metro station, over"
ACU soldier: "Say again, over"
Layla: "I repeat, Im at the control room of the abandoned metro station, over"
ACU soldier: "10_4, we are approaching your location, over"
Layla: "10_4 on standby, over"
-14;40: After an hour and 44 minutes, the first contact with Layla was made. The rescue team immediately begins approaching her location, while also mapping out the complex.
-14;55: After 15 min, the rescue team arrives at Layla's location. The team was surprised and relieved that they found Layla alive, especially Sophie.
They stayed for about an hour at the station, gathering info about it while Kaito treated Layla for her injuries.
-15;55 to 16;10: After gathering info and Layla treated, the team heads back to the elevator shaft and began rising up to the surface.
At 16;40, the team gets back on the surface, marking the end of the rescue mission, it was a succes.
After 4 hours since the incident happened, Layla survived with minor injuries. She fully recovered after 3 weeks.
Aftermath: The administrator immediately began rebuilding the Delta Complex, activating the 5 elevators that were out of order and digging up the other 5 elevators that were build over.
The facility also went into a small renovation of the supports rod that were worn out, so that incidents like this one will never happend again.
