Welcome to the very first THE JARED ENCOUNTER DEVLOG POST. This is very exciting. It's split into 2 sections: the NERD SECTION (me, dylan's section), and the COOL ART SECTION (dog's section). It'll start with the nerd section, but if you aren't a big nerd like me, then you can skip the art section. Let's go...

What's good peeps. It's me, Dylan, the awesome programmer, composer, and creator of The Jared Encounter. I'm gonna show some awesome screenshots from the game, mostly of the "edit mode" I've been working on, which is heavily based on GameMaker and Hammer. Here's a screenshot of "epictestroom":

As you can see, I can place objects and triggers and stuff (this has been the bulk of the work I've been doing since September-December).

Here's a pic of the overworld (not final) in edit mode:

Speaking of cool new features, I revamped the room loading to make edit mode possible. The rooms now load from a JSON string instead of being hardcoded in the game. Check it out:

I also finished coding the deck editor however this has been done for quite a while:

Last thing I'm gonna share is the absolute BEHEMOTH that is the code for the card:

That's pretty much all I have to share (the edit mode and new room loading has taken up 3/4 of my development time so there isn't a lot to show). However, I am working on an external animation editor that allows easier and non-hardcoded animations which is pretty hype. Time for Dog's cool art section!

Hiiii!!!! Its me dog so uhhh yeah. If you don’t know who I am.. I make the art and stuff fo jared, animations, concepts, and writing, stuff like that yk! So rn for jared art i am focusing on remastering most of the stuff.. and some additional things like nature (trees, grass, bushes) and creatures!! Heres the remastered player character (Mitch) next to the old one:

I’m doing this bcuz.. Well the old art looks kind of ugly AND its made in scratch. So I moved to Aseprite! (a while ago… actually) aaand now its quite obvious what sprites are new and old, so thats why im making everything look crisp and match eachother!!

I’ve also made a buncha concepts for new jared characters!

Hey guys, it's me Dylan again. We've got a lot more cooking. The progress on the game is going good, however, there are a few problems we're running into that might set stuff back a little bit (cough cough collision), but the demo should definitely be out sometime next year. With that said, the future of the game is looking quite bright... let's go...

Okay, the demo is taking a bit longer than expected. Give us probably around another month! We promise the demo will come out this year decade!!!

In the meantime, we will say there is an official Discord server in the works where we'll post cool stuff!!!
