The Runner - DevLog 2


Well, we are getting some updates in before the gaming begins!!! YAYYY. I am sorry to awkwardstudios but his highscore will probably get topped quickly with this new update. I’m sure he will try to defend his title though.

So now in this update we have 2 power ups! There will be many more, but I wanted to get a build out for the gaming sessions.

The first ability is “Magnetism”, which will attract coins to your player for 30 seconds. This is incredibly useful for boosting your score up by being able to get coins that you usually wouldn’t be able to grab due to their position or your lack of skill. Kidding of course, a lot of the coins are in places that are impossible to grab without a magnet.

The second ability is “Shield Barrier”, which basically gives the player a chance to escape death. I know you want them to stack but they don’t. Sorry. But you will be able to keep grabbing them as the game goes on, just don’t hit a spike while you don’t have a shield. These shields allow me to avoid the addition of lives to the game which was previously discussed as an option. But as an endless runner I felt that lives wouldn’t quite fit.

These abilities have about a 1/25 chance of spawning every second. So you can replenish your magnet quickly and grab more shields when you need them. Just make sure that you don’t go for these powerups when you might die getting them.

ALSO, we have added another type of coin to the game. They are the much rarer and slightly faster and smaller, blue coins. They might be harder to grab, but they award the player 3 times as many points as a purple coin would. So at the highest speed you would get 6000 spankin’ points for one of them. The magnet works wonders when grabbing them too.


So throw more ideas for power ups at me! One of them I encourage you to debate about is a “Emergency Coolant”, which will slow down the game to the lowest speed for 10 seconds.

But if you have more ideas please give them. Powerups, coin types, gameplay elements, and spike types would be awesome! Thanks for following and playing once again!
