I am a game developer already for 7 years now and i learned a lot from being here on FNAF community. After all this time i decided to share my experiece with others who are willing to create their own FNAF game. I hope you can learn from this post and achieve a truly good looking game!

Game development in general and how to speed up the process.

Making a video game can be a complex and time-consuming process, especially for beginners. However, there are a few things oyu can do to streamline the development process and makee it more efficent:
1. Start small and focus on a specific concept.
It can be tempting to try to create a large and complex game from the outset, but this can be ovewhelming and lead to delays and setbacks. Instead, try to focus on a specific concept or idea that you can develop and polish quickly. This will allow you to get a game up and running faster, and it will also give you the opportunity to learn and improve your skills as you go.
2. Use game engines and pre-made assets.
Game engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine can be a useful tool for beginners, as they provide a range of pre-made assets and tools that can be used to create games more quickly. Using these assets can help to speed up the development process, allowing you to focus on the core gameplay and mechanics of your game.
3. Plan out your game in advance.
It can be helpful to take the time to plan out your game in advance, including the gameplay mechanics, levels, characts and story. This can help to ensure that you are clear on what you want to achieve and can avoid delays or setbacks caused by changing your mind or going in the wrong direction.
4. Collaborate with others.
If you are working on a game alone, it can be helpful to collaborate with others who have different skills and expertise. This can help to speed up the development process and also allow you to learn from others as you go.

How to make a FNAF Fan Game?

Now let's dive first into why Five Nights at Freddy's stands out among other horror games. There are a few reasons why:
Five Nights at Freddy's is known for it's use of jumpscares and intense atmosphere, which helps to create a sense of fear and tension for the player. The animatronics in FNAF are unique and memorable, with each one having it's own distinct appearance and behavior. This helps to create a sense of fear and unease as the player tries to anticipate the movements of the animatronics. FNAF has a complex and detailed lore that is gradually revealed to the player through various in-game elements, such as newspaper clippings and audio logs. This helps to add depth and mystery to the game and keeps players engaged and invested in the story. It has a simple but engaging gameplay mechanic that involves teh player managing their limited resources (such as power and light) in order to survive the night. This adds a strategic element to the game and gives the player a sense of agency as they try to outsmart the animatronics. And finally, nowadays FNAF has a strong online community and has spawned numerous fan games, mods, and other fan-made content. This helps to keep the franchise alive and gives fans a way to continue exploring and expanding upon the world of FNAF.

Now let's think in short how to make a great Five Nights at Freddy's based fan game:
1. Start by deciding on the basic concept and theme of your game. This could involve using existing characters and settings from the FNAF universe, or creating your own original content.
2. Choose a game engine that is suitable for your needs. Some popular options for creating FNAF-style games include Unity, Unreal Engine, Clickteam and GameMaker Studio. 5. Create the character models and animatronics for your game, making sure to give each other one it's own distinct appearance and behavior. This can involce creating custom models or animating existing ones to fit the need of your game.
6. Add sound and music to your game to enhance the atmosphere and immersion. This can involve creating custom sound effects and music tracks, or using pre-made assets if necessary.
7. Before releasing your game, it's important to playtest it and get feedback from other people to identify any issues or areas that need improvement. This can help you finetune the gameplay and make sure that the game is as enjoyable and polished as possible.
8. Release your game and promote it to a wider audience. This can involve sharing it on social media, forums, or other online platforms, or releasing it on a platform like GameJolt or itch.io.

Some extra tips to make the game truly good:

If you want to create a good parody of the series, it's important to capture this atmosphere and style in your game. This may include the use of jumpscares, suspenseful music and creepy animatronic characters (not always being an animal styled robots).
2. Use humor appropriately.
A good parody should be able to balance horror with humor. While it's ok to inject some comedic elements into your game, be sure to do so in a way that doesn't ruin the overall atmosphere or take away from the horror elements.
3. Keep it fresh.
While it's important to stay true to the source material, you should also try to bring something new and unique to your game. This could be new gameplay mechanics, characters, or story elements.

Let's focus on the details such as story, here are a few ideas for a story you could use for a FNAF fan game you are making:
- You can make a prequel to the original FNAF game/s:
You could create a story that explores the events that led up to the original FNAF game, revealing the secrets and mysteries of the animatronics and the restaurant.
- Another good choice would be a sequel to the original FNAF game:
You could create a story that picks up where the original FNAF game left off, exploring the aftermath of the events of the game and the ongoing struggles of the characters.
- Best idea in my opinion would be to make an alternate universe or timeline:
You could create a story that takes place in an alternate universe or timeline, where the events of the original FNAF game unfold differently. This could allow you to explore new scenarios and create new twists and turns in the story.
- The last idea would be a pretty dangerous but affective too. A retelling or remagining of the original FNAF game:
You could create a story that reimagines or retells the events of the original FNAF game from a different perspective such as the perspective of a different character or an in-universe narrator. You can create the remake of the original but there are limites to it. You have to make not only a better experience but also add elements that change your game from what the original was about.

Here are some examples of plots i can give you:
- A plot that revolves around a new protagonist who is hired to work at new location of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. This could involve exploring the history of the new location and uncovering secrets and mysteries surrounding the animatronics and the previous workers who worked there.
- A plot that takes place in an alternative universe where animatronics at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza have a different appearance or function. For example, the animatronics could be designed to look like superheroes or could be used for educational purposes rather than entertainment.
- A plot that involves the player character being transported back in time to the original location of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. This could involve enountering familiar characters from the original FNAF games and uncovering the secrets of the original location.
- A plot that revolves around a new set of animatronics that have been created by a mad scientist or other nefarious figure. This could involve the player character working to stop the mad scientist and prevent the animatronics from causing harm.
- A plot that involves the player character being the sole survivor of a disaster or tragedy that occurred at a previous location of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. This could involve the player character trying to uncover the truth about what happened and seeking revenge against those responsible.

Remember that a key aspect of the FNAF series is the use of atmosphere to build suspense and fear. Use descriptive language and vivid imagery to create a creepy and immersive setting for your story. Use jumpscares sparingly: Jumpscares can be effective at creating sudden, intense moments of fear, but they can also be overused or become predictable. Use jumpscares sparingly and in a way that enhances the overall horror of your story, rather than relying on them as a crutch. Let's not forget to develop compelling characters. Good horror stories often have well developed characters that the player can relate to and become invested in. This especially important in a FNAF-based story, as the animatronics characters play a central role in the series. Focus also on creating a sense of danger and tension: A great horror story should keep the player on edge of their seat, always feeling like something dangerous could happen at any moment. Use plot twists and unexpected events to keep the player guessing and heighten the sense of danger. The FNAF series is known for it's themes of abandoned places, malfunctioning animatonics and the idea of being trapped. Incoporate these themes and elements into your story and give it a familiar feel for fans of the series.

So, what engine would be good to make a FNAF fan game?

There are a few different game engines that could be suitable for creating a FNAF fan game. Some options to consider include:
1. Unity.
Unity is a popular and powerful game engine that is used to create a wide variety of games , including horror games. It has a large community of developers and a wealth of resources and tools available, making it a good choice for beginners and experienced developers alike.
2. Unreal Engine.
Unreal is another powerful game engine that is commonly used for creating horror games. It has a robust set of tools and featurs that help you create high-quality graphics and gameplay mechanics. However, it may have a steeper learning curve than other engines, so it may be better suited for more experienced developers.
3. Clickteam Fusion 2.5.
Finally, the choice of many. Clickteam is a game engine that is specifically designed for creating 2D games. It has a user-friendly interface and a range of features that make it easy to create animations, dialogues, and other game elements. It might be a good choice if you want to create a 2D FNAF fan game.
4. Game Studio Maker.
Game Studio Maker is another game engine that is geared towards creating 2D games. It has a simple interface and a range of tools and assets that can help you create your game quickly and easily. However, it may not have as many advanced features as some of the other engines mentioned here.
Ultimately, the best game engine for your FNAF fan game will depend on your goals and your level of experience with game development. You may want to consider trying out a few different engines to see which one works best for you.

As it goes for mechanics, here i will suggest you what you could add into your game (not only new):
1. A mechanic that allows the player to switch between different security cameras to keep track of the animatronics. This could add an extra layer of strategy to the gameplay as the player tries to anticipate the movements of the animatronics and decide which cameras to prioritize. Would be even better if every camera you have has an important role and in order to succeed and beat the game, you have to actually check each one to gather information needed.
2. A mechanic that allows the player to use sound to distract or lure the animatronics away from certain areas. This could involve using a microphone or other in-game sound-making tools to manipulate the animatronics behavior.
3. A mechanic that introduces a new type of enemy or antagonist, such as a ghost or supernatural entity that can affect the animaatronics or the player in some way. This could add a new element of horror to the game and give the player more to worry about.
4. A mechanic that allows the player to repair or upgrade the security systems in the building. This could envolve finding and collecting in-game items or completing mini-games to earn points that can be used to upgrade the security systems or other tools.
5. A mechanic that allows the player to customize their character or the security systems (enviroment) in the building. This could involve choosing different outfits or equipment for the player character (or animatronics), or selecting different security features to install in the building. This could give the player more agency in the gme and allow them to tailor the gameplay experience to their preferences.

One of the important things you have to decide first is the style. I got a few tips and examples of pretty good styles to use in your game:
1. Use a minimalistic art style to create a sense of isolation and unease. This can be achieved by the use of simple, low-detail enviroments and character models, and a limited color palette.
2. A realistic art style can create a sense of believability and immersion. This can be achieved through the use of detailed enviroments and character models that look as close to real life as possible.
3. Use and exaggerated or stylized art style to create a sense of surrealism or otherworldliness. This can be achieved by the use of distorted or exaggerated features on characters and enviroments, or by using bright or unusual color palettes.
4. Also remember that the usage of creepy or unsettling soundtrack could enhance the atmospere and create a sense of tension. This can be achieved the use of dissonant or unusual musical element's or by using sound effects that are out of place or unexpected. Experiment with different musical styles and techniques to find what works best for the game. This could involve using a variety of instruments and musical styles, or incoporating electronic music elements or uncoventional sound design techniques.
5. Use a limited field of vision to create a sense of vulnerability and uncertainty. This can be achieved by the use of fixed camera angles or by using a first-person perspective with a limited view.
6. Use atmospheric lighting to create a sense of mystery and tension. This can be done through the use of dim or flickering lights, or by using shadows and other lighting effects to obscure the player's view.

Regarding the animatronics designs, here are a few ideas that could be useful:
1. An animatronic that is designed to look like mythical creature, such as a dragon, griffin or unicorn. This could add a fantastical elemnt to the game and give animatronics a unique appearance.
2. An animatronic that is designed to look like a historical figure, such as a knight or pirate. This could add a touch of whimsy to the game and give the animatronic a distinct personality.
3. And animatronic that is designed to look like a futuristic or sci-fi character, such as a robot or alien. This could add a sense of otherworldliness to the game and give the animatronic more futuristic appearance.
4. An animatronic that is designed to look like a supernatural entity, such as a ghost or demon. This could add a horror element to the game and give the animatronic a menacing appearance.
5. The most common idea – An animatronic that is designed to look like and animal, such as a bear, a wolf or a fox. This could add a more realistic element to the game and give the animantronic a naturalistic appearance.

Here what i would suggest about minigames. Especially 8 bit games too:
1. Focus on a specific character or event.
One way to make your minigame unique is to focus on a specific character or event from FNAF series, and use that as the basis for your gameplay and story. For example, you could create a minigame that follows the story of the puppet or that explores the history of the animatronics at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.
2. Use gameplay mechanics that fit the theme.
When designing your minigame, try to come up with gameplay mehcanics that fit the theme or tone of the FNAF series. For example you could use mechanics that involve hiding or sneaking around to create a sense of tension and danger, or you could use puzzles or riddles to challenge the player's problem-solving skills.
3. Create a retro, 8-bit aesthetic.
Since your minigame is inspired by the FNAF series, it can be fun to create a retro 8-bit aesthetic that evokes the look and feel of classic video games. Use pixel art and simple, chiptune-style music to create an authentic old-school vibe.
4. Use cutscenes and dialogue to tell the story.
One of the strenghts of the FNAF series is it's storytelling, and you can use cutscenes and dialogue to help tell your own story in your minigame. Use these lements to reveal information about the characters and the world, and to help build tension and suspence.
5. Keep it short and focused.
Since your minigame is a short, 8-bit experience, it's important to keep focused and concise. Avoid adding unnecessary elements or mechanics that don't contribute to the story or the gameplay, and try to keep the length of the game around 2-5 minutes.

And finally the Sound is very important when it comes to horror games, especially FNAF. So here are a few tips and ideas of how to create a great horror music and ambiences:
1. Use dissonant or anonal musical elements to create a sense of unease and discomfort. This can be achieved through the use of uncoventional chord progressions, harsh or dissonant melodies or unusual rhythms.
2. Use sound effects that are out of place or unexpected to create a sens of unease and disorientation. This can be achieved through the use of sound effects that are unrelated to what is happening on screen, or by using sound effects that are at odds with the music.
3. Use silence or quiet ambiences to create a sense of tension and anticipation. This can be achieved by using long periods of silence or by using very minimalistic ambience tracks that create a sense of emptiness or isolation.
4. Use creepy or unsettling sound effects to enhance atmosphere and create a sense of fear. This can be achieved through the use of distorted or unnatural sounds, or by using sound effects that are associated with horror, such as screams or whispers.
5. Use ambient noise or soundscapes to create a sense of place and immersion. This can be done by the use of realistic or detailed sound effects that are appropriate to the setting of the game, such as the sounds of wind, drones or outside noise like rain or birds.
6. Use a musical score that reflects the mood and tone of the game. This can be done by using music that is appropriate to the setting and atmosphere of the game, such as suspenseful or ominous music.

At the end i also want to add that making games is truly hard and it definetly includes payment of somekind. If you need high quality assets or hire a team to work on a game, always remember that it may cost you money. Unless you want make everything by your self.

Good examples are JR's, Tealerland, Popgoes, FNAC and The Joy of Creation. Then we have Oblitus Casa, Tyke and Sons Lumber Co., The Glitched Attraction, Baby's Nightmare Circus.

This guide is made for people who are creative and only just needed a schedule to how proceed with developing. Nowadays its difficult to make original FNAF fan games, where i would suggest just to go and make something completely different. As well as this post is made for people who are looking for their own goals, to make what they wanted, even if its not so original. Just enjoy the creation you make, and i just wanted to give you some ideas.
