Confused about the title? I assume most people will be. That title has many meanings in the context of this game, some of which are necessary for me to address for everyone.
In late 2014-early 2015, I discovered Five Nights at Freddy’s and its fan-game scene. One thing that always fascinated me was Fredbear’s Family Diner, which was only briefly mentioned in FNaF 2 at the time. After the release of FNaF 3, that interest grew even more and I excitedly waited for Scott Cawthon to explore the subject more (which he did do but not in the ways I had hoped). During this time I came across many different fan-made Fredbear games, the biggest at the time being “Five Nights to Remember”.
Most newcomers probably won’t understand my love for this game, especially now that the community has more elaborate and innovative games that have graced the scene since its release. Many of these older fangames are what kept the younger me distracted from everything else that was going on in life. I was one of the first few to see everything start and pick up traction back in the day. I try to keep the magic I felt during this time alive in the modern era, which is quite difficult now with the scene's evolution and the introduction of things like the Fazbear Fanverse. I couldn't say no when we were offered the chance to officially bring the FNTR franchise back to life. This was a prime opportunity for me to go back and time and relive some good (and bad) memories.
Some of you might know I have spent most of my time in this fandom being a negative Nancy. The development of this project has helped me with a lot of self-reflection, making this project a very introspective endeavor. The last few months of work have brought a lot of pressure on my mental health, but I am happy it has to be this way. Looking at how this turned out has made me feel like a kid again. I finally get the chance to do my own Fredbear game all the while paying tribute to the one that made me interested in the first place. For once have been able to see this all on a positive side without the need to outdo the last project we did. There is no pressure here, it's all just simple fun.
That being said, I feel this game is very much an "Anti-Radiance" experiment. This is not another Oblitus Casa! We did the opposite of what we normally do for this game. Those who are about to play this game will most likely come out of it with polarizing opinions, some of which have already been expressed during development. I very much expect this game to be the black sheep of our projects. Some people might totally get it and some people might call us washed up and unoriginal after this. The graphics aren't anything mind-blowing, and sure some of the mechanics aren't original... but ask yourself this: Does it need to be anything more than what it is? No, that's not me excusing any sort of laziness or lackluster effort. You're allowed to dislike the game and call it lame, but at least understand what it's trying to do and what it is in the eyes of its developers. As the title says, this game is not for you. This is for us. Regardless I hope you are all able to get some sort of enjoyment from playing.
I guess it's about time for me to wrap this up since I don't really know how to continue everything I just wrote. Enough of the old man reminiscing! Thank you all for your consistent patience and the nonstop support you all constantly give the team. We hope you get a trip out of playing the game even if it's been in the works for nearly 3 years now.
I'll see you all again on Treasure Island!
