This is a gameboy playing pokemon red in slow motion. You can see that the screen flashes. During those “flash” where nothing is shown on the screen the console extract “random” values that cause all the random events in the game.

This is pretty complicated and I couldn’t explain precisely how it works. I am sure you can find a video on YouTube that explains this perfectly. It could also be just the screen refreshing itself and I am just dumb…
