This week's mascot is another favorite of mine, and has an interesting name I'll be discussing a bit.

Bio below. v

Ararat

Joined Game Jolt: 2013

Hobbies: Spelunking

Dislikes: Loud noises, debates

Bio: Though Ararat may look slightly intimidating, in reality, she's shy and withdrawn, and for a good reason. Ararat was born with a speech impediment that makes it very difficult for others to understand her. This has not altogether prevented her from making some good friends, however. Ararat is very fond of the kindly robot PandaC and helps him locate the best joltite crystal deposits during his mining expeditions. Due to Ararat's difficulties, she occupies a position on Game Jolt that doesn't require much in the way of interaction; she simply redirects visitors when they stumble upon a page that doesn't exist. Perhaps it's a humble job, but it's an important one, and it makes her happy to be able to help!

Author's notes:

What exactly is "Ararat"? Ararat is a dormant compound volcano located in the extreme east of Turkey. Here's a photo of it:

"Okay KniteBlargh, cool, that totally explains everything, definitely, yup, for sure." Yeah, I know, it seems like a super random choice of name, but my explanation for it is really quite simple.

Since I already knew this mascot would only be seen on Game Jolt's error page, I was thinking to myself: "What sounds good with 'error bat'?" Just like that, "Ararat the error bat" popped into my head! Has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

Would you like to see Ararat hard at work on Game Jolt? Just visit this link.

Art rave on a Tuesday.

The Tetrisphere soundtrack goes hard. Good game, too, by the way—an N64 classic. If you ever get the chance to play it, play it.

Just casually working on a submission for a surface pattern design challenge.

This is a printable stationery page I drew for a friend I was writing a letter to. He loves redwood trees.

For future stationery designs, I probably wouldn't tint the background unless I added a fancy fading border/frame.

An origami dog I mailed to a friend recently. This one was more complicated than I was expecting. Not really difficult, just deceptively minimal looking.

Anyway, hope you all have a lovely weekend! Stay awesome!

Another climbing floral surface pattern design I made for home décor and fabrics. I was inspired by a patchwork top and also a porcelain dish.

Hope everyone's day has been going as well as possible. Been a busy one for me! Lots of yardwork.

An illustration I painted for a friend who has been battling cancer for a long time. She's been doing better, but it's still hard. Hoping this will bring a little cheer in spite of everything.

I was spending some time with a friend who is in the hospital after having a stroke. She said:

Friend: "I heard you're an artist." Me: "Yes!" Friend: "You haven't drawn anything for me." Me: ""

Here's a sketch of something I'm working on for her.
