When I rewrote the site into the new site that we have now, I made sure that I wrote the new code in a way that we could translate it into other languages in the future. One of the reasons I did this was so that Paul Hack (our copy writer) could make changes to text/pages without me having to go in and update the code.
The other reason is so that we could eventually get translations on the site/client. That day is here!

I’ve set up a translation management system so that anyone in the community can contribute translations. There’s already been a ton of work by some hard working volunteers. Thanks!

There are already 23 languages being translated, with 3 being at 100%. I haven’t even put out the news about translations besides a tweet and a call to help in the footer. The Game Jolt community is the best!
There is still a lot of work to do on my end. During the development of the new site I got a bit lazy and didn’t make it so every little bit of text could be translated. There’s still a bunch of translation tags I have to work on getting into the system. I’ll be doing this over time, so be sure to check back periodically in POEditor to see if any new terms need to be translated for your language.
That’s not all, though! One of the concerns I had about translations is that I was afraid it would cause more user content on the site to be written in other languages. If you’re viewing the site in Turkish, you may be more inclined to write a Turkish comment on a game rather than an English one, for example.
So, I came up with a solution. Let’s integrate real-time translation functionality into the site for user content!

If there are comments on the site that are in a different language than the one you’re browsing in, you’ll now see a little button that allows you to translate them all to your language!

Now if someone comments on your game in a different language, you can see pretty quickly what they’re saying (hopefully).
I am currently still just testing this system out. I have to see if it eventually becomes too costly (Google Translate API is not free). I didn’t backfill language detection for all comments yet, so you’ll only see the “translate comments” button for new comments that are in a different language.
Right now automatic translations are just for comments, but if all goes well, I’ll be working on the ability to translate game descriptions and news articles, as well. This way you can follow your favorite games even if you don’t speak the language. 
Different indie communities around the world should be able to interact. I hope this helps in bringing them closer!
