Today we are proud to share several pieces of information with you.
First, and foremost, there will eventually be a Multiplayer Skirmish Mode available in Rive.
Here are the details of a Multiplayer Skirmish:
This game mode is essentially a real-time strategy where you are in the action.
A minimum of one opponent and yourself will spawn on opposite sides of the island
You will start with a treasure and some building material. Your priority is to protect that treasure from your opponent.
Throughout the island will be the regular resources, and animals. But, there will also be independent characters roaming the map. If you can offer them a gift, they will join your side. These essentially become your henchmen. They can do anything from collecting resources on their own, to fighting battles.
Platform barriers you build to protect your treasure are destructible.
As a tribe leader, you will be able to unlock several skills.
Simply, the player who captures the other’s treasure first, wins.
Now, initially, this multiplayer mode will be done by one player opening a server (in-game) and another player (known in real life) will be able to join based on knowing your IP address. A global multiplayer online game where players do not know each other would cost a lot to upkeep and is currently not within reach. But, if you are passionate about Rive and wish to see it reach that some day, then spread the word.
In the meantime, an updated Windows and HTML version were just released. They both include the option of turning randomly generated terrain on or off. Turning it off has a large benefit for performance. Let us know what you think of the HTML version. A downside of this version is that you currently cannot save in it. Let us know which game version you prefer.
Lastly, the next release of Rive will include tribespeople that can be commanded what to do.
We hope you’ve enjoyed the info and will continue to follow Rive’s development.
Thank you,
