I will be trying out a slightly new format for these posts, with headers.
1) First load/save screen update.
I messed with my save file creator, and with the file itself, to test the 2 current contingencies I thought of: file version differences. Both of these are now fully operational. The file is deleted and replaced/overwritten. In the case of a NEWER file version, sadly it will overwrite your data and reset it. In the case of a PREVIOUS file version, you will be fully updated to the new build version.
Now I need to add stuff like data corruption and integrity issue detection.
One thing I'm really proud of is that this allows to make fighters and stages unlockable as soon as the first build, and keep players' unlocks consistent between versions!
2) Menu updates soon.
Soon I will be resuming work on the fighter select and other menus included in the first build. I am debating having each menu screen separate (new scenes altogether) one by one. (Main menu, single/multiplayer, etc.) I am considering this mainly for performance reasons. Many menus loaded and available all at once may bog it down. Plus I can load more stuff on a single menu like animated cursors, etc.
3) Features I am itching to implement, and other ideas.
Music playback is just one haha.
Music-wise, the Sound Test will be available from the get-go much like in SSB Ultimate. I will be updating the list of music tracks to include in the first build to *5* per stage, rather than just 3.
Starting from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, you had text at the top of the screen saying the track title that was selected via My Music.
Feud will feature this too, but will have an updated display: Just above the heads-up displays/damage meters, you will see the track title centered near the bottom, with smaller text underneath showing the source game.
Sort of like this:
Ground Theme - Super Mario Bros. (64)
Super Mario Bros.
But the lines will be closer together and will display the series icon the track is from.
Also! I am deeply considering making small animations for fighter HUDs. Example, when you take damage, your fighter portrait will shake, playing effects when healing damage, etc.
4) Final thoughts before I finish this post.
Finally, I'm down to the final TEN veteran fighters I've chosen for Feud left to convert assets for and then package for later as I develop them. I'm hitting the home stretch in that department. I'll feel better once that's done, I'll feel less rush. I've chosen 2 of the 3 new challengers from my total list to include in the first build too!
"Kold, when will you reveal more fighters?"
Right now, I'm building things. I've already revealed a handful of fighters (Mario, Link, Captain Falcon, and Kirby). And later on I'll focus on those four and their alternate colours to have screenshots available for you asap. I don't want to reveal everything too soon: the wait will be unbearable for fans of those fighters I'd reveal, since I'm developing this solo, plus I will be taking breaks between builds.
Until later,
~KV
