Update ver. 8-19-2025

~You've just saved my life~

Ahem...

I struggled for a long time with how to implement this next feature into Super Smash Bros. Feud, but I've found solutions I like, and so I present to you: SAVING AND LOADING.

I have pictures here of the very first scene that will now load when you first boot the game: creating your first save file.

This screen can not only create your save, but will also analyze it before you play! Now you may be asking: You plan to release the game in updated builds right? How will you make your save compatible with a newer version?

I'm using a Game Version identifier.

The first build # will be 0 when I first release a build. And, when I add waves of new content, the Game Version will become 1, etc. What this allows me to do, is that when a new game build finds a save file from an older build and you've updated with your new .exe and folder? Your older save file will be read and updated into the new version's format! So, if you've done stuff like earn records, unlocked fighters/stages, etc.? This data will be transferred to your new build~! Let's use Mario as an example, even if I can confirm he's available from the start: If you unlocked him in Version 0, and I updated the build to Version 1? Mario would still be unlocked in your V1 after you download and use it.

I'm also adding code to prevent errors from this, for example, if you try the reverse and use a newer game save with an older build of the game: short answer, you won't be able to. The game will automatically create a new save with the relevant format, and delete the newer save.

And! It's been tested and confirmed that the game will automatically load into the splash screens scene when a compatible save is found!

So yeah, that's one thing I've been doing while on hiatus! And one more thing! I added a little audio Easter Egg to the "this is the first time" window ;)
