Hey, all. I wanted to give my insight on what Sonic Reclassified: Genesis' Awakening would have been like had development continued.
Basic Information
Sonic Reclassified: Genesis' Awakening was born out of the intended split for the game, but before then, it was to be how the game was to develop, with newer levels, new secrets, and a full-blown endgame to settle it all.
Story
So, as you've caught on from prior posts about the game, part of the story was to be focused around the Carters and what went on after they were dragged into the game by MegaDrivX. I'll touch on them in a moment, but to begin with, I'll explain just how things started from Sonic's end.
The Beginning
Following the events of Sonic CD, Sonic was on his way over to West Side Island in the Tornado when the seventh Chaos Emerald flew close by. Suddenly, something unseen attacked the plane and caused Sonic to crash-land back at South Island.
Thankfully, our blue hero survived, albeit with a broken arm from the impact, so he treaded carefully in an area of Green Hill he hadn't come across before. During this trek, however, he started getting memories of someone he wasn't; Jake Carter, the eldest son of Michael and Charlotte Carter.
He soon stumbled across the titular entity, though was quickly apprehended, his soul, and the souls of most of the other major characters, were fused with those of the trapped family. He was sealed away in a purgatory shortly after.
The End
Sonic and Jake did meet equal ground in good time, though, resolving to make plans to make a hard reset of Project: Reclassified, and put a stop to MegaDrivX's plans before he reaches eternal godhood. It needed some special cartridges at least, though the cast did gather the Chaos Emeralds and a special CD along the way for them too.
With that power, they hard-crashed the game and reset all of MD-X's progress, which angered the monster quite a lot. With enough speed, the duo (in the same vessel with Jake taking the lead) caught up to MegaDrivX and stopped him from killing Tails/Asher.
With that, there came the climatic final fight, with the blue blur fully emerging victorious and shutting down the malicious entity for good, therefore ending his tyranny.
As of today, the Carters are in a safer place, alongside a non-code-based version of Sonic. However, it doesn't mean the cast from the alternate world itself are out of trouble. Of course, that's a story for another day...
Intended Changes
With the story covered, I'll touch upon what changes were to be in play for the game.
Whilst the levels for Tails and Knuckles were to remain the same as EXE Origins (which is now the ONLY version of the game), everyone else was to have a completely different set of stages to go through.
For example, Robotnik's campaign was to be tweaked to have a puzzle-based focus, while Amy had new levels before and after Lost Hill Zone.
There was also planned to be an expanse of secret levels you could access to find the collectibles; Azure Stages for the cartridges, Special Stages for the Chaos Emeralds, Sin Levels for the black/sin rings, and a special level set based on Sonic: Dark Abyss for the CD.
Amongst DLC characters, I actually had plans to include Metal Sonic as well, his story having planned to explain something the doctor had uncovered before MegaDrivX struck. The Boyfriend seen in Genesis' Awakening's DLC was also to be my version of the guy, though thanks to that plan being scrapped along with EVERYTHING ELSE intended, it's just regular Boyfriend now.
Soundtrack
Several new songs were planned for the game, even if not compositions meant solely for this game. For example, Crystal Egg's second act was intended to use a remixed version of the classic Hill Act 1 theme (which is now in use in @Poyomakepe 's Sonic.EXE: Project Eclipse), to signify that Robotnik isn't so helpless this time around.
In addition, the final boss was meant to use "Through Hell and Fire" from Sonic: Hellfire Saga in the second phase (and yes, I did get permission in advance from the song's original composer to use it), and then the third phase would've reused the title screen theme, but the entire thing that time around.
What happens now for the intended story?
What was intended for Genesis' Awakening and its sequels has been shifted over to the in-progress Delta Saga by @RantsuLancelot, which is gonna be vastly different to a lot of other EXE games. It'll practically have proper gameplay elements and a full-on linear focus, akin to Sonic.exe: Dark Times and Sonic: Clock of Madness.
For now, though, this is where my input on this stuff ends. I'm happy to have clarified what could have been, and hope to see the Delta Saga develop well going forward. For now, though, have a good day/night!
