This post is looooong overdue. Before I get into explaining the state of the game and Banan itself, I owe you all an apology for the silence. If you've been following me in a non-banan sense, then you may have heard that on the 22nd of December 2023, I had a garage fire. Luckily nobody was hurt or BBQ'ed. But the damage done by the fire to the garage and the smoke to the rest of the house meant we had to get a lot of renovations done. It all worked out for the best though, especially since the house itself was really old and we've been trying to put money together to renovate anyway. God certainly does work in mysterious ways huh? That's besides the point though.
Due to the fire and the renovations afterwards, my family and I have been unable to live in our house for over 5 months. Because of that, I haven't really been in a place physically or mentally where I can fully manage a team. You may be asking "What team? Wasn't banan just made by you and 2 other people?" Well after the great reception of the first game, a bunch of other fandevs in my circle wanted in on the sequel, and I happily accepted the help. However, soon the game grew way too big with ambitions way too high. That led to everyone involved being unmotivated to work on the game, myself included.
I don't want to cancel banan 2, nor do I plan to. But I think Im going to scale back the plans that we had. Originally we wanted to make the game with HD 4K RTX Triple A Game level graphics because the thought of putting so much effort into a dumb goofy parody game was funny. But i've realized something, the fact is that vision goes against why banan was created to begin with.
Banan was created to make fun of BanBan for its laziness and absurdity of the BanBan series and the high horse the Euphoric Bros keep themselves on. And while I've heard that things have been improving for the game and the devs making it, (I even heard they implemented Banan's superior drone mechanics in the latest entry. About friggin time they implemented the most obvious idea when conceptualizing a drone as the main tool for the entire game lol.) I still want to hold on to those core philosophies of the nature of Banan because that's what made Banan funny to begin with. Taking the bare-bones and bizarre look and feel of BanBan and taking that to an 11!
So for those reasons, Banan 2 will be kept in the same graphics style as the first. Though don't think for a second that Banan 2 is going to be basically the exact same game as BanBan 2 with some VA and Graphics changes. I do plan to have some new mechanics integrated in there. However the game will still follow the same beats in order to keep true to the parody style established in the first.
I also plan to downsize the team as well. I don't want to name who's staying and who's going here. Mostly because I need to figure out who still actually cares about Banan and who couldn't care less. No doubt I'll be planning on @Daby_Kong and @SandwichWare staying on as they helped me make the first game. (As long as they want to of course. No hard feelings if they don't.) I'll also be wanting to keep on @PhantronGames as he was very passionate in wanting a sequel after the first game's release. Plus he created the Banan GJ community. Which while small, has shown me that there are a lot of people who really like my silly little parody game, and it really does mean a lot to me. @Inky_Bun has also shown plenty of interest in helping on the project, and as he's been helping with many other projects of mine (to be revealed soon) I trust that he'll be of great help.
As for anyone else who has been brought on previously or has expressed interest in helping, it is unlikely that I will bring on too many people outside of the 4 mentioned above. If you still want to extend an offer to help feel free, but please understand should I decline. And be ready to help in a timely manner should I accept. I don't want to make people wait an entire extra year once development resumes lol
Now, when will development of Banan 2 resume you may be asking? Well, that's not entirely within my control at this point in time. Daby's computer has been completely kaput for quite some time. The lack of motivation and the fire were only 2 out of 3 reasons for why Banan 2 has been in development limbo the way it has. The death of Daby's pc is our 3rd. And while he has gotten a new computer since, its a very dinky laptop not suitable to handle creating a game in a 3d engine. Until he can get something he can actually make games on. Banan 2 is on pause. I promise I will communicate whenever development resumes.
I believe that's all that needs to be addressed at this point in time. If you've read to the end, I appreciate you and your patience, and I hope you can understand why things with Banan have been the way they are. Thank you all for having fun with my goofy parody. I hope you'll stick around for the next projects I create, whether it be banan related or not.
Until the next post!
Doggo~
