What's the best strategy to deal with the tunnels? So far I've just been going through on the outside and hoping I get the room, but I feel the sensitivity isn't enough for me to effectively react and run away

In order to unlock the power of a Shrine, you must collect 3 'Souls' from your dead corpses! (the floating blue orbs)
