Happy Halloween!!! For the occasion, we're releasing a new blog post elaborating a little bit on some misconceptions surrounding the game's function and objectives.
Since the start of the game, and especially since private testing, people have been asking things such as "is max mode possible?", or trying to play with as many characters as possible and experiencing overwhelming difficulty with, what is comparatively to other similar fangames, a relatively small selection of character "enabled"....
This is because this game is structured a little differently to most UCN based fangames out there, and this is nobody's fault but our own for not attempting to make a greater effort at clarifying such.... so, what is Digital Nightmare: Recharged exactly then?
While the original UCN was balanced to have a completely possible All/20 gamemode, and most UCN fangames will either attempt to follow in this nature or have an outright impossible max mode with the goal of seeing just how close you can get to it, Digital Nightmare aims for something a little closer to the original selling point of UCN- It's a sandbox game, with the goal to mix and match who you want to play with, as opposed to how many you CAN play with. The AI values also hold much more meaning here, with lower AI values and higher AI values making a huge difference in most characters' attack patterns, allowing for you to play with a couple characters at high AI, or many characters at low AI, and have both selections of characters be equally challenging!
We'll be attempting to rectify this misconception and make the game's identity a little more clear going forward, starting with switching up the names and functionalities of the Custom Night Menu side bar buttons. Originally, they were just the same as any other Custom Night fangame, giving you control over the full roster, which gives the idea that you WANT to play against the full roster. To combat this, we've removed the Set All 20 AI button entirely, and changed the modify AI buttons (Add 1 and Subtract 1) to only affect characters you already have turned on- think of these buttons less as affecting the roster, and more as affecting your selection of the roster!
That's all there is to share today! If you have any personal thoughts on this handling of the game, or how we can better convey it so people don't get the wrong idea, please do share in the comments below! And until next time, have a Happy Halloween everybody!
