Hello, my name is Andre Wahl and I am a 3D artist specializing in Character Art. When developing a character, I aim to capture the story of that character through its modeling, texturing, and presentation. Each model I create, I approach with a production mindset, paying close attention to how the topology will deform when animated, optimizing UVs, and implementing non-destructive workflow techniques to ensure texture maps can easily be altered to meet production goals.

My passion for character creation started at a young age. Ever since I could hold a crayon in my hand, I have been creating creatures and characters alike - crafting elaborate stories and worlds for them to exist in. When asked why I do what I do, the best answer I can give is it is in my DNA. Art is a personal conquest of mine, like an athlete competing against their own personal best, I have done the same throughout my entire life, aiming to achieve higher levels of expression and storytelling in my art.

When creating a character, I spend a great deal of time researching references from the real world to inspire my design, paying close attention to the time period in which the character exists and the materials and craftmanship appropriate to that period. While modeling, I utilize my knowledge of anatomy to inform the character’s design, aiming to capture a high degree of anatomical accuracy, and exaggerate it where necessary. When it comes to texturing, I pay close attention to how the material will interact with light, analyzing and breaking down what properties each material has, so I can accurately capture the material in 3D.

Even though character art is my passion, I have been teaching the 3D pipeline for half a decade, and in doing so have developed an extensive 3D generalist skillset. I am well versed in the entire pipeline, from preproduction to postproduction. I have taught courses in animation, rigging, hard surface modeling, organic modeling, digital sculpting, texturing, lighting, rendering (real-time and post), compositing, motion graphics, digital illustration, game art, and game development.
